Embassy Worker Strike Fund—Fondo obreros EmbUSA

Español abajo.
The 1,100 Honduran construction workers building the new U.S. Embassy complex in Tegucigalpa have been on strike for over 60 days, demanding that the State Department and its contractor BL Harbert respect their human rights and Honduran labor law. Rather than simply follow Honduran law to provide their workers healthcare and job security, compensate them fairly and ensure safe working conditions, the Embassy has responded with intimidation, retaliatory firings of the movement leadership, and militarization (complete with riot police, tanks and sharpshooters).

The workers' struggle for justice has meant enormous sacrifices for them and their families, many of whom have been evicted from their apartments and are going hungry after going so long without pay. As these brave workers continue their struggle with an employer that is empire itself, they need the mobilizing and material support of the international solidarity community. The funds raised here will be transferred directly to a worker-led support committee in Tegucigalpa, which will use it primarily to buy basic food supplies (beans, rice, cooking oil, etc.) to distribute among workers and their families, and for other consensed emergency needs. We’ll provide receipts of transfer and distribution videos here for transparency, along with other updates.
