The latest trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse featured an inclusive message for the trans community.
On 4 April, Marvel fans were treated to the second full-length trailer for the highly anticipated animated film.
While the brief teaser was full of eye-opening interactions and action-packed sequences, it also featured a brief LGBTQ+ inclusive easter egg.
In a somber scene featuring Spider-Gwen, the young hero is shown reflecting on her friendship with Miles Morales, aka Spider-Man, while seated in what appears to be her bedroom.
While the scene offered a glimpse into the film’s emotional stakes, it also included some great trans allyship by featuring a ‘Protect Trans Kids’ sign above Gwen’s bedroom door.
Shortly after the trailer was released, LGBTQ+ fans flocked to social media to praise the film’s creatives for displaying a powerful LGBTQ+ inclusive statement.
One fan wrote: “Currently SOBBING at the “protect trans kids” flag in the new spider-man movie.”
Another fan tweeted: “To all the crybabies complaining about the ‘Protect Trans Kid’ sign in the #SpiderVerse trailer, have you forgotten that Spider-Man, stands up for underdogs & those in need? Trans kids deserve protection & love. Regardless of your opinion.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes nearly five years after the release of its Oscar-winning predecessor Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Picking up where the first film left off, Miles Morales/Spider-Man (Shameik Moore) reunites with Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) for another adventure across the Multiverse. However, this time around, the two characters are joined by a new batch of web-slinging superheroes.
The synopsis for the film reads: “Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.”
Alongside Moore and Steinfeld, the film is also set to star Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man 2099/Miguel O’Hara, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker/Spider-Man, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, Daniel Kaluuya as Hobart Brown/Spider-Punk, and Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man India.
