Kids Community Closet

Masked up and ready, 2020 volunteers deliver backpacks to Pittsburgh schools and partner agencies.

The Kids Community Closets provide children with essential clothing year-round and in their own communities, in partnership with child-centered agencies and schools. Through the Closets, ongoing clothing needs of children are met as they grow, seasons change, and family circumstances evolve. When a child needs an item from the closet, they are assisted by an agency or school professional.  NCJW funds, purchases, and delivers the clothing with support from donors and volunteers.

Through Kids Community Closets, NCJW works with 22 community organizations and public elementary schools to provide clothing, including winter jackets to children in grades K-5 throughout the year.  NCJW engages volunteers to serve as ongoing liaisons between the sites and NCJW; the liaisons make contact at specific dates throughout the year as well as deliver items to replenish the closets.  Last year, over 3,000 children were supported by the Closets program.
