Steven Berbeco Announced as New Deputy Commissioner of the Child Development Division

In a press release on February 7, Governor Scott announced the appointment of Steven Berbeco as the Deputy Commissioner of the Department for Children and Families’ (DCF) Child Development Division, which leads the department’s child care and early learning work. Mr. Berbeco has worked in education, administration, and linguistics, and was most recently the Superintendent for a school in Arizona. He begins his appointment in Vermont this week.

 

Building Bright Futures to Share UPK Findings

In a public webinar on Friday, February 14 at 1:00 pm, Building Bright Futures (BBF) will discuss the outcomes from the Universal Pre-K forums they hosted across the state this winter. These forums engaged educators, parents, and other stakeholders in discussion about UPK administration in Vermont. Public Budget Hearings Across Vermont

On Monday, February 10, the House and Senate Appropriations Committees gathered public input on the Governor’s recommended FY21 State Budget. Many people advocated for issues on the Alliance’s 2020 Legislative Agenda. Afterschool and Summer Learning Day at the Statehouse – 2/13

Join Vermont Afterschool at the State House on Thursday, February 13 to show your support for afterschool and expanded learning programming in Vermont. Participants will meet with legislators independently, gain experience communicating the value of afterschool, advocate for statewide funding for afterschool and summer learning programs, and celebrate youth voice.
