The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) is an independent non-profit agency that partners with the Stamford Public Schools (SPS) to provide programs and resources that elevate the success of under resourced students in our district. As a valued partner, SPEF delivers direct services IN school buildings, including middle school mentoring, math tutoring in all three high schools, and our unique early education program for elevating students who lack a Pre-K experience. Further, in support of our community at large, SPEF’s parent leadership program has a rich history of graduates who have supported the district by serving on PTOs, the PT Council, the Board of Education, and in other areas of civic engagement.
SPEF serves the richly diverse population of students and families in Stamford’s 22 pre-K-12 public school programs. For the 2022-23 school year, 50% of SPS’ 16,700 students identified as Hispanic, 26% as White, 13% as Black, 6% as Asian, and 3% as two or more races. Of these 16,700 students, 65% are high needs students, defined by the CT Department of Education as students with disabilities, English Learners, OR those eligible for free/reduced-price meals. Stamford Public Schools students speak more than 75 languages at home, and 17% are English Language Learners.
