The City of Trees can add yet another accolade to numerous “Best of” and “Hot” lists it’s been featured on in recent years.
Forbes says Boise and the surrounding metropolitan area is the fastest growing area in the nation for 2018. The business publication cites the region's increasing population, a general hiring spree by employers and the region’s ever-increasing home values.
Boise’s population grew by over 3 percent last year – a growth rate higher than any other major metropolitan area. As for home prices, their meteoric rise of over 11 percent last year also helped propel the Ada County locale to the top of the list.
Moody’s Analytics, the company who provides the data for the Forbes list, predicts Boise will continue to grow – but just a little slower – in 2018. An economist at Moody’s says Boise has the low cost, the location and the tech sector to foster further expansion. Last year, the city was ranked 20th by Forbes on their Best Cities For Young Professionals list.
Moody’s and Forbes used data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics and tapped several resources for home values, including: the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
Right behind Boise on this year’s roundup of the fastest growing cities is the Seattle / Bellevue area. Third on the list is the Dallas area, followed by Orlando and Fort Worth, Texas to round out the top five. At the bottom of the list of the 25 fastest growing cities is the Grand Rapids area of Michigan.
