President Biden
Declare Rohingya Genocide & Sanction Burma
Honorable President Joseph Biden,
Your election mandate was based on democracy and human rights. We appreciate your firm stances on human rights and democracy. Here is an opportunity to take bold action for these values. Impose sanctions against the military regime that first committed genocide against Rohingya and have now toppled the civilian government.
It is the same military. These are the same generals.
If these measures had been taken earlier, the military may not have gone this far to dismiss the civilian elected Aung San Suu Kyi government.
It is a critical opportunity for you, Mr. President. You can demonstrate a firm commitment to democracy and human rights in your first 30 days in office by swiftly taking these measures:
These two steps will go long way in clearly spelling out to the whole World that your commitment to democracy and human rights are foundational pillars of your administration.
This will also strengthen Burmese civil society's resolve for democracy and will allow junior generals of the Burmese military to seek a different path from the Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
Respectfully,
