ICJS Summer Teachers Institute

With rising incidents of antisemitism and Islamophobia, how can we better equip educators to respond to religious bias and bigotry? Educators are on the front lines of public discourse on religious issues, with debate and disputes often entering their classrooms. They need the knowledge and confidence to engage in important conversations and teaching around religion with their students, free from fear of saying or doing the wrong thing. Classrooms are also interreligious spaces, where everyone has a unique religious or non-religious identity. 

The ICJS Summer Teachers Institute will gather secondary school educators across public, independent, and religious schools and cross-curricularly to learn together over four and a half days. In the mornings, educators will learn together about pressing issues of religion. In the afternoons, participants will visit area congregations to meet and be in conversation with Baltimore-area religious leaders.
