Join us for a 3-hour overview and in-depth discussion of Pollyanna's K-8 Racial Literacy Curriculum. Monique Vogelsang, lead creator of this curriculum, will guide you through a discussion about Pollyanna's Racial Literacy Curriculum, which is designed to help students gain knowledge about race as it has been constructed in the United States. Employing lessons in history, literacy, science, geography –– with STEAM extensions –– the curriculum supports students in acquiring an awareness of their own racial socialization and skills for engaging in productive conversations about race and racism.
Our workshop will introduce the curriculum, which was released to schools free of charge in Spring 2019. Together, we'll review curricular highlights of each grade, so educators can better understand how to address race in the classroom. After taking this workshop, participants will feel more confident and inspired to incorporate race dialogue and content into their existing curriculum.
This professional development is appropriate for K-8 faculty, curriculum advisors and administrators.
The PD will take place at Harvard-Westlake's Upper School Campus, 3700 Coldwater Canyon, Studio City, CA, from 9AM-noon.
A light breakfast will be served.
Cost is $250 per person.
