About us
Hunger Solutions New York is a caring and informed voice for hungry New Yorkers. We believe no one should ever wonder where their next meal is coming from. We strive to maximize participation in, and the effectiveness of, federally funded nutrition assistance programs including: • The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) • The School Breakfast Program • The Summer Food Service Program • The Child and Adult Care Food Program Hunger Solutions New York works one-on-one with those who struggle to keep food on the table. We fund community-based organizations to provide education, support and application assistance through the Nutrition Outreach and Education Program and the SNAP Help LI Initiative. These programs connect New Yorkers to federally funded nutrition assistance programs. We consult with, train and provide resources to non-profit organizations, school districts and other agencies to help make their anti-hunger efforts more efficient and effective. Hunger Solutions New York advocates for policies and legislation to improve nutrition assistance programs at the state and federal level. Based on consultation with federal and state administering agencies, partner organizations and local providers, we develop public policy recommendations to help significantly reduce hunger in New York State.

True anti-hunger champions, school administrators are tireless in their commitment to improving children’s food security and access to nutrition. We look forward to continued partnership and advocacy together to improve access to school meals while also ensuring families are connected with programs like SNAP and WIC to support food security at home.

May is Older Americans Month. Many older adults rely on SNAP to put food on the table. SNAP is like Social Security and Medicare—if you are eligible, you will get your benefit and have more to spend on food. The Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) provides one-on-one help applying for SNAP. Visit FoodHelpNY.org to find a NOEP Coordinator near you.

During Foster Care Awareness Month, we highlight the vital support WIC gives to foster parents and children. Children in foster care can get WIC, which provides healthy food, nutrition education, and more for kids under age five, and foster parents learn how good nutrition helps them grow healthy and strong.
