Van Meter Williams Pollack (VMWP) is an award-winning multi-disciplinary architecture and urban design firm with offices in San Francisco, Denver, and Minneapolis. We are an open and progressive office with a variety of challenging projects. VMWP’s architectural work focuses on community development including mixed-use, multi-family, and affordable housing projects. Beginning with a focus in sustainable practices and emphasizing urban infill, our work in community development and architecture, including transit-oriented design, has been recognized nationally. VMWP’s architectural work focuses on affordable housing, community development and sustainability. Our urban design work includes transit-oriented development, master planning, specific plans, and design guidelines. Each of our projects includes an active community process where we work together with local stakeholders in workshops, charrettes, and meetings to prioritize goals and create a future vision of their place.

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Planning and Urban Design leader, lead and participate in establishing planning solutions and programs for large and complex land use, master planning, and buildings projects, including residential multistory mixed-use housing campuses, high-rise residential, mid-rise residential, commercial, retail, civic institutions, private organization’s campuses, greenfield projects, including parking garages; participate in a wide range of urban and ex-urban projects, including urban design competitions requiring expedited concept development and document production, local and regional urban design projects, urban infill development, mixed use regeneration, urban revitalization, brownfield redevelopment, urban planning, streetscapes, land use and transportation, and open space planning projects; assist in responding to Requests for Qualifications (RFQ’s), Requests for Proposals (RFP’s), and design competitions by crafting response design proposals; perform tasks include visioning and enlisting planning design principles; research local/global precedents to apply to the design process; research local codes and compliance and building typologies; prepare program area tabulation and determine phasing, estimate population projection, and apply local population assumption ratios for various regions; develop site design alternative studies requiring site plans, site sections, 3D digital site massing, and physical site modeling; coordinate with traffic, transit, transportation, civil engineering, entertainment, landscape, code, security, parking, lighting, zoning, signage, marketing/branding, historic preservation and adaptive reuse, and waste management consultants to incorporate multidisciplinary expertise and engineering systems into unified design for client and jurisdiction regulatory agency review and approval; prepare urban design guidelines, capacity studies, slope analysis, concept plans, development plans, and entitlement plans; prepare presentations for client, public, jurisdiction regulatory agencies, workshops, and meetings, using 2D/3D CAD and building information modeling programs, including Sketchup, Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Lumion, Enscape, analysis and computer skills to develop 3D building campus computer models and presentation images, and building physical models using digital fabrication software for laser cutter and 3D printer; produce design presentation packages with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe AfterEffects, Miro board, Prezi, PowerPoint, and free-hand sketching in color pencil, ink, and markers; analyze, evaluate and manage smaller projects independently; provide ongoing development and support for all sustainable design platforms and work closely with design and delivery leadership to guide the transition from the traditional sustainable design processes and standalone environmental analysis practices into integrated design and analysis processes in collaborative work environments; incorporate LEED sustainable design principles and strategies into master planning and building projects, participate in LEED documentation and commissioning process, prepare 3D energy models to evaluate daily sun exposure, analyze heat loads, and maximize energy savings using Ecotect, and Tall; coordinate with architects to bring planning projects into SD/DD/CD phases; participate in research and selection of building materials and FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment) components required for construction and work with consultants, vendors, product reps, and fabricators to meet overall project objectives required by local jurisdiction precise plans; assist in identifying weekly project requirements and projecting long term needs; assist in managing project consultant agreements and project budgets; assist in managing project data and transmission and all electronic communications.

Job Requirements:
