On the morning Benjamin Harvey died, temperatures in Boulder dipped into the low teens.
It was cold enough to trigger the opening of an emergency warming center.
But for reasons unknown, the homeless man who friends and relatives described as sharp, conscientious and compassionate, but deeply troubled by alcoholism, didn’t make it to the severe weather shelter.
He also didn’t stay at the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless on north Broadway, but the reason for that was simple enough. He had been banned.
Harvey’s body was found Christmas morning.
The coroner has not released a ruling on the cause or manner of Harvey’s death, and the police report on the death is not yet available.
