Over the past three years, the Iowa Environmental Council has filed petitions and comments to improve rules regulating concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) in Iowa.
During this event, IEC Water Program Director Alicia Vasto and Staff Attorney Michael Schmidt will share background on the rulemaking process, where the current rulemakings stand now, and what IEC has uncovered about the true costs of CAFOs for Iowans.
Mary Beth Stevenson (City of Cedar Rapids) and Wally Taylor (Legal Chair of the Sierra Club Iowa) will also be joining us. Mary will be sharing information on the city's work to protect its drinking water from nitrate pollution in an agricultural watershed, and Wally will discuss updates on the Supreme Beef and Bloody Run Creek litigation.
