Sign up below for a one-hour time slot during the 24-hour vigil for World AIDS Day.

World AIDS Day is held on December 1 each year around the world. It is an opportunity to raise awareness, commemorate those who have died, and celebrate victories such as increased access to treatment and prevention service.

Learn more about HIV/AIDS and World AIDS Day.

People living with HIV and AIDS are especially vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic. HIV and AIDS are thought to increase the risk of serious illness due to COVID-19. In addition, the lockdowns to prevent the spread of COVID-19 have disrupted the availability of live-saving HIV/AIDS medications in many countries.

Join the 24-hour prayer vigil: Pray for those living with HIV and AIDS and for those whose lives were cut short due to HIV or AIDS. The vigil will begin at 12 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (U.S.) on Thursday, December 1.

Pray with and share the Maryknoll AIDS Task Force prayer

patricia oetting barefoot bay, Florida usa I HAVE BEEN A NURSE SINCE 1963, working 17 yrs in the Emergency Room.... needless to say I was taking care of pts with AIDS a while before we even had an idea of what it was.........how it was spread...etc. yes, it was scary. Many people were afraid that I would bring an illness to them............so I had to often just be a bit quiet about the whole medical condition. Even some staff were afraid..............it was so sad. I made good friends with the ones who had the symptoms and word spread that they should ask for Patricia to take care of them.........and they would not mind waiting. IT WAS A SPECIAL TIME FOR SURE...... some years later I had moved and actually worked on a unit at a hospital were we called it ISU. the Immunosuppressed unit. we knew what AIDS was and in those eight bed unit families, friends...etc...got to share fears....etc with each other.. so it was a "good way of helping and teaching. I felt honored that they trusted me and could ask me anything.....and they knew I cared and prayed for them...I am blessed. Patricia

Ted Miles Baltimore United States I pray for all those who have been directly affected by HIV and AIDS, especially those who have passed on, those who have lost loved ones, and those currently living with HIV. May our prayers and activism lead to increased research, increased access to healthcare, an end to stigmas and increased compassion and care toward those living with HIV or AIDS, and a deeper appreciation for all who have helped achieve the victories won.
