- An Incredible Response!
the project
After the temperamental weather of the past year, many plantings in Seward Park did not survive. At Seward Park Conservancy, we are committed to helping the park flourish. To combat the increasing temperatures, we are planting more native plants throughout the park with the help of our community.
Throughout the coming year, we will host community planting days to get everyone, especially children, involved in nurturing Seward Park! By inviting people to help tend to this space, we are strengthening community bonds and growing a feeling of ownership and connection to this vibrant park. Nothing is more rewarding or reassuring than watching children return to the bulbs and bushes they helped plant to check in on their progress.
Your donation helps us nurture our Seward Park community with native & weather-resistant plants to keep Seward Park green and community events to bring all ages together!
the steps
After purchasing the plants and supplies needed, Seward Park Conservancy will be hosting community planting days throughout the coming year. We will share the event information through our social media accounts and mailing lists, as well as spread the word through our community partners.
On planting days, we will gather in the morning and provide everyone the supplies needed and teach people how to properly plant our new native and weather-resistant plants. Then we will work together to restore our park!
Following the planting days, Seward Park Conservancy's gardner and volunteers will continue to check in and nurture the plants weekly to ensure they will thrive!
why we're doing it
If you have visited Seward Park, you know of its magic. From 1903 to now, Seward Park has anchored our neighborhood. Under our shady oaks, members of all facets of our Lower East Side community enjoy Seward Park as a space to gather and enjoy the outdoors. With your support, we can bring together our community to tend to that park and watch it flourish under our combined care.

Thank you to everyone who has donated! We could not be more thrilled by the community support for this project.
While this campaign has been in progress, we have been working hard at park with our new summer associates and treating our pollinator meadow after a tree fall. You can get weekly updates from our park on our Instagram: www.instagram.com/sewardparkconservancy/
