NO LONGER ACTIVE – Bill Not Passed Before Session Ended

Wisconsin: Act Now to Protect Consumer Access to Practitioners of Complementary and Alternative Healthcare!

Our legislative efforts have reached a crucial time and we need your support! Please contact your WI state legislators and urge them to sign on as a cosponsor to LRB-1960/1, The Consumer Protection for Complementary Healthcare Act. NHFA, Sunshine Health Freedom Foundation, and Wisconsin Health Freedom Coalition (WIHFC) worked hard to get this “Safe Harbor Exemption” bill ready for introduction but, before it’s introduced, we need your help to get as many cosponsors as possible.

Please support health freedom rights in Wisconsin by requesting your personal legislators cosponsor LRB-1960/1. Send a message here to inform legislators that LRB-1960/1 is needed to protect both consumers and practitioners who use and provide complementary health services in Wisconsin, including herbalists, naturopaths, homeopaths, nutrition consultants, and many others. The more requests for support they receive, the more likely they are to cosponsor. The deadline for cosponsorship is 12:00 PM on Friday, September 20th, 2019.

Please also consider personally calling your legislators to reinforce your written request of support for LRB-1960/1. Easily find your personal legislators here (enter your address in upper right-hand corner and click ‘search’ icon). Start building a relationship with them now so trust and comradery are established when you eventually ask them for their yes vote on the bill. Simply leaving a brief message with a legislative assistant can make a big difference!

Similar bills to The Consumer Protection for Complementary Healthcare Act, LRB-1960/1, have already passed into law in eleven other states. Wisconsin’s bill will provide an exemption to state occupational licensure for those non-invasive complementary and alternative health care practitioners who (1) avoid a specific list of prohibited conduct, such as administering prescription drugs or telling people to go off treatments recommended by a licensed health care professional, and (2) give out the disclosure information listed in the bill, such as contact information and the nature of the services to be rendered.

NHFA appreciates your support of LRB-1960/1 and looks forward to keeping you updated on the progress of this bill (i.e., exciting legislative milestones such as bill introduction, which legislators sign on as cosponsors, committee assignment(s), public hearing dates, floor votes, and, hopefully, eventual passage into law). Until then, review NHFA’s re-cap of 2017-2018 work on this effort to familiarize yourself with the expected language and history of the upcoming bill. We’ll need your help to convince legislators there is broad Wisconsin support for the bill as it moves through the legislative process. Knowing what the bill does and does not do is a great place to start.

Health-seekers deserve to have maximum options protected for them as they work to explore their wellness and health. Please support Wisconsin’s exciting new bill here now!
