Restore Asylum Now: 2nd Anniversary of Title 42

Take action: Raise your voice to ask President Biden to end Title 42 and restore asylum.

This Monday, March 21, will mark the second anniversary of the start of Title 42, the CDC health order that has been used to rapidly expel hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers at the U.S.-Mexico border without due process for their asylum claims. The Biden administration has an opportunity to end this disastrous policy and restore the asylum system.

Initiated under President Trump, Title 42 has been maintained for two years despite calls from public health officials, Members of Congress, and advocates to end the policy. Under Title 42, asylum seekers have been returned to situations of grave danger in their countries of origin – a practice illegal under international law. Public health research has also shown that the policy can exacerbate the spread of COVID-19 rather than curtail it, and that there are safe ways to manage migrant arrivals during the pandemic.

Take action to restore asylum:

• Contact President Biden to urge him to end Title 42 and restore a robust asylum system.
• Watch the livestream of a “Way of the Cross” prayer vigil led by asylum seekers in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, on March 21 at 1:00 p.m. ET, sponsored by the Kino Border Initiative.
• Join a solidarity action against Title 42 in Washington, DC or around the country. In Washington DC, on March 21, there will be a livestreamed march to the White House at 11 a.m. ET and a livestreamed vigil at the CDC headquarters at 1 p.m. ET.
