A commanding majority of American voters oppose race and sexuality-based hiring practices and efforts to embed the dogmas of Critical Race Theory into the medical field, according to new survey results obtained exclusively by The Daily Wire.
The poll of registered voters found that, though many respondents were not familiar with the phrase diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI, sizable majorities are opposed to the core practices associated with the DEI movement.
“Would you approve or disapprove of your company relying on race, gender identity, and sexuality-based hiring and promotion practices?” one of the poll questions inquired. A full 66% of respondents said that they oppose the practice, while just 22% said that they support it.
The poll, performed by CRC Advisors on behalf of the 85 Fund, an organization that supports conservative action groups, comes as institutions across the country, including universities, corporations, and hospitals, have embraced the core tenets of Critical Race Theory and radical gender ideology.
A majority of Democrats and liberals, 54% of both, said that they oppose the discriminatory hiring and promotion practices, while Republicans, conservatives, and independents all opposed the practices by more than 70%.
Major corporations from a variety of different sectors, from NASCAR to IBM, have offered internships and career advancement opportunities that discriminate against white people, Asian people, and men on the basis of their race and sex in the name of DEI.
The poll also asked respondents about the role of the DEI agenda in the medical field, with one question asking whether “a hospital or medical provider should consider racial justice when determining treatment?” The vast majority of respondents, 62%, said that providers should not consider racial justice when determining treatments. Every single political demographic said that providers should not consider racial justice with the exception of liberals, who were split 45% to 45% on the issue.
Respondents were also asked if they believe that state-owned hospitals and medical schools that “impose rules and promote and provide services based on race, gender identity, and sexuality” should receive taxpayer funding. A full 59% of respondents said that such hospitals and medical schools should not be able to receive taxpayer funding. Self-identified liberals stated that these institutions should receive taxpayer funding by a two-point margin, while all other political demographics disagreed.
The poll also found that 61% of respondents disapproved of a new toolkit from the American College of Surgeons encouraging doctors to consider a patient’s race and identity when providing care. All political demographics stated that they disapproved of the practice.
The toolkit was met with sharp criticism by Dr. Richard Bosshardt, a Senior Fellow at Do No Harm, an organization opposed to the politicization of medicine.
“The American College of Surgeons should junk their DEI Toolkit which seeks to indoctrinate surgeons to see patients according to their racial, ethnic, or other identity group. Patients must be treated as individuals and not as a member of a racial or ethnic entity,” Bosshardt remarked. “DEI displaces excellence and has no place in medicine. It is not supported by two-thirds of patients, and supposed benefits to its adoption are not supported by any evidence.”
“Merit alone should be the basis for selecting those who have patients’ lives in their hands. The divisive identity politics pushed by supporters of ‘diversity, equity and inclusion’ is illegal, unscientific, dangerous and, according to this poll, unpopular,” Dr. Stanley Goldfarb, the Director of Do No Harm, told The Daily Wire. “Medical schools, hospitals, doctors, and medical professionals at all levels will continue to erode trust until they abandon identity politics and emphasize excellence and accountability in care.”
But despite the unpopularity of race-based medicine, there’s an ongoing effort to embed Critical Race Theory into the medical field under the banner of “health equity.”
The University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health gave politicized training protocols called “Anti-Racism 101” and “Teaching and Learning at a Predominantly White Institution,” a Daily Wire investigation found, while a top health policy journal hosted an internship that barred white applicants.
The Food and Drug Administration even issued a guidance that bumped non-white patients to the front of the line for monoclonal antibody treatment, a potentially life-saving intervention for those with COVID-19.
While respondents were generally opposed to practices associated with the DEI agenda, less than half said that they had “recently seen, read, or heard about diversity, equity, and inclusion practices,” and 37% of respondents, a plurality, said that they were unsure or refused to answer whether they approved or disapproved of efforts to introduce more DEI in everyday life. Meanwhile, 36% said that they support efforts to embed DEI in everyday life, while just 26% said that they disapproved of such efforts.
The poll also asked voters about their thoughts on Joe Biden’s performance, with 56% of voters saying they disapprove of the way that Biden is handling his responsibilities with 41% approving of his presidency. Just 3% said they were unsure or refused to answer.
A majority of voters, 64%, said that the country is currently on the wrong track, with 88% of Republicans and 80% of conservatives sharing the view. A majority of Democrats and liberals, 62% and 55% respectively, said that the country is on the right track while 73% of independents and 63% of moderates said that the country is on the wrong track.
Meanwhile, 23% of voters said that the top issue facing the country is inflation while another 21% said that immigration and border security are the biggest issues. In third place were jobs and the economy at 15%, followed by crime, healthcare, and abortion.
The poll was conducted from January 3rd to the 7th online and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.45%.
