21 New CASA Volunteers Sworn-In as Officers of the Court on Friday

February 19, 2021 (Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Twenty-one community volunteers were sworn in as officers of the court by 4th Judicial District Judge Catherine Mitchell Helton during a CASA of the Pikes Peak Region swearing-in ceremony over Zoom on Friday.

Fourteen of the new volunteers were sworn in as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs), and seven were sworn in as Supervised Exchange & Parenting Time (SEPT) Facilitators.

“It is amazing that 21 of you have decided to take this step. It has been a really tough year and you decided this was the time to become more involved and make an incredible difference in the community and I thank you for that,” Judge Helton told the new volunteers as she commended their efforts and expressed the court’s gratitude.

The new CASAs will be assigned by a judge to an open Dependency & Neglect case so that they may speak up for the child on that case and ensure the child’s best interest remains front and center during court proceedings. These volunteers will be a steady and trusted presence for abused and neglected children as they navigate the child welfare system.

The new SEPT Facilitators will ensure that children and parents maintain positive and healthy relationships by facilitating court-ordered supervised visits between parents and children in CASA’s Family Visitation Center.

CASA is always recruiting new volunteers. The next training class with openings will be in April and community members who are interested in learning about the opportunity are encouraged to attend CASA’s next Volunteer Information Hour over Zoom at 12:00 PM on March 11.
