Peer Olympia

Official Launch Announcement

SAY WHAT??
Peer Washington is thrilled to launch our newest program - Peer Olympia! Peer Olympia’s charter is to provide peer led, peer emotional support and development services to adults in Thurston, Mason, Grays Harbor, and Lewis Counties seeking recovery from mental health and/or addiction challenges with a special focus on active military, veterans, people experiencing homelessness, rural communities, and their families and loved ones. Peer Olympia will provide our core services of resource referral, peer coaching, peer facilitated support groups, supported employment, and supportive housing. Additional service opportunities will be added over time based on needs identified by the local community and funding availability.

BUT WHO??
We are excited to name Stephanie Tompkins as the Peer Olympia Site Director! Stephanie is a Squaxin Island elder, a peer, and has over 16 years of experience working in behavioral health including as Director of Northwest Indian Treatment Center and Thunderbird Treatment Center, and as a co-founder of the Washington Recovery Alliance. Stephanie will oversee the day-to-day operations of Peer Olympia, engage the recovery community, grow our local membership, and implement services under the direction of Chief Program Officer Cody B West.

AND WHEN?
We have secured a location in downtown Olympia and have begun renovations of the space to best suit the needs of our members. We hope to launch our services by or before October 1, 2021, dependent upon construction and safety issues related to the COVID 19 pandemic. We will keep the community updated as we have information to
share. Please be sure to like our Peer Olympia Facebook page for updates. Once the remodeling is complete, we will hold a grand opening followed by a Recovery Coach Academy and Peer Group Facilitator training to build a pool of trained peers. Growing our membership of peers and volunteers will be essential to Peer Olympia’s success.

WHY OLYMPIA?
There is a high need for community-based recovery services in Olympia and the surrounding area. You need only spend some time doing outreach in Olympia’s downtown corridor to recognize the need for our unique services. In addition, we are partnering with several local active-duty military and veterans organizations to share our model of peer recovery community support. This will also be our first opportunity to really expand our model into a largely rural area.

GREEN LOGO?
As proud Washingtonians, we are thrilled to be planting our flag in the Capitol of the Evergreen State. Just like the evergreen trees, we recognize the resilience, strength, and fortitude of peers supporting one another in recovery that speaks to our tagline - We embody HOPE for a better future when we learn that RECOVERY is a possibility for
all and find PRIDE in the power of our lived experience to push back against the stigma that so often keeps us down.
