New York City Launches Strict New COVID Vaccine Mandates for Indoor Activities

New York City adopted a COVID-19 vaccine mandate policy restricting which businesses residents are allowed to patronize based on their vaccination status.

Officials have had the plan in the works for a while. It’s in the news now because it just went into effect.

The program is called the “Key to NYC,” which means you’re locked out of the city without the vaccine.

CBS News in New York reported:

Mayor De Blasio: Proof Of Vaccination Needed For Indoor Activities In NYC Starting Tuesday

New York City’s new vaccine mandate was supposed to go into effect Monday, but now Mayor Bill de Blasio says it is happening Tuesday.

Proof of vaccination will be required to take part in certain indoor activities.

As CBS2’s Hazel Sanchez reports, some businesses are already preparing.

On the Upper West Side, befitnyc is ahead of the curve, already requiring employees and gym members in order to enter workout spaces.

Owner Fernando Salomone says the “Key To NYC Pass” makes it easier for him to enforce rules to keep his business safe.

“The new regulation is heaven for us. Because now it’s not our idea. We respect the regulation of the city,” Salomone said.

Starting Tuesday, people who work in gyms, restaurants and indoor entertainment venues like comedy clubs, theaters and museums will be required to be vaccinated with the COVID vaccine. Anyone wanting to enter those venues will have to show proof they’ve been vaccinated as well, will the city’s NYC COVID Safe app, the state’s Excelsior Pass, or their paper vaccination card.

“Definitely I will feel safer,” one person said.

“It’s going to bring a little division between people, I bet,” said Mackenzie Reid.

A little division? Do you think?

Just five days ago, the New York Times reported that only 27% of young, black New Yorkers are vaccinated.

The plan is a disaster waiting to happen. It will harm minorities more than anyone else.

The Orwellian spin they’re putting on this is amazing. They’re saying, “Look at all you can do in New York City!” But the underlying message is, “You’re locked out if you don’t comply.”

Also, this is essentially an ID. Democrats think voter IDs are racist, but this is OK? Really?

Back in the 1980s, New York City launched an ad campaign titled “I Love New York.”

They should think about updating it to “I Obey New York.”

How many Noo Yawkuhz are willing to say “no”? Or, “fuggidahbahdit!”?

It depends where. There’s only one place I frequent that I think is likely enforce it immediately. Everywhere else I go is likely to ignore it until the city starts sending out inspectors and issuing fines, which won’t happen until Sep 13. What they will do then, I’m not sure, but they’ll probably have to make at least some effort at enforcement.

The Friendly Grizzly in reply to Milhouse. | August 18, 2021 at 11:31 am

I don’t know why anyone downticked you for your entry.

With that out of the way, what is your feeling about your fellow NYers? Will they finally say enough is enough?

I doubt it. Too many of them support this lunacy, and too many of the rest don’t want to risk fines. It’s not the customers who’ll be fined, it’s the owners, and they can’t risk it.

They should call it the Rasputin virus

Since it’s becoming clearer everyday the vaccines either don’t work on newer variants of the virus or lose their efficacy after a few months, take your pick, how is the city going to explain how all of these vaccinated people are getting sick if they can’t blame unvaccinated people?

    Fat_Freddys_Cat in reply to elliesmom. | August 18, 2021 at 8:00 am

They haven’t bothered making a coherent argument before, so I don’t expect them to start doing so anytime soon. Look at their insistence that vaccine resistance is only occurring amongst those horrible Deplorable Fox News viewers in “flyover country”, even though the data shows that there is resistance amongst minority communities in big cities. And it’s quite a stretch, at best, to blame NYC’s Covid cases on farmers in Iowa who wouldn’t set foot in NYC even if you put a gun to their heads.

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to elliesmom. | August 18, 2021 at 8:00 am

Why do you think they need rationality? They will blame the unvaccinated even more. They will say it’s the fault of the unvaccinated the virus persists and mutates and so the unvaccinated are a threat to the vaccinated, and so the unvaccinated must be destroyed. This makes no sense of course, but one thing is for sure, the powers that be will NEVER admit the vaccine was a mistake anymore than they will admit masks are at best useless and potentially harmful.

Dathurtz in reply to elliesmom. | August 18, 2021 at 8:42 am

They are going to lie and say vaccinated people rarely get sick and everybody will think they are the rare exception.

“how is the city going to explain how all of these vaccinated people are getting sick if they can’t blame unvaccinated people”

By doing what the CDC is doing, and only testing the unvaccinated for covid, then claiming that only the unvaccinated are getting the virus.

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to randian. | August 18, 2021 at 12:09 pm

This is actually a very good point that must be remembered.

To be fair, if a PCR test is done on a vaccinated person, the cycle limit is 28 per the CDC. There is NO cycle limit for the unvaccinated, so you can just keep doubling the sample until you detect something. It is a mystery (not really) why the CDC would have two different protocols for testing. The “case” numbers are therefore inherently biased in favor of the vaccinated.

Remember, figures don’t lie, but liars can figure.

What happens if they don;t get the booster and become the same as the un-vaccinated? The end of the eight month protection period is looming…

Antifundamentalist | August 18, 2021 at 7:54 am

And then, after a while (a couple of months at most) NY will start dropping acceptable forms of proof to combat “vaccination pass fraud” until everyone must have a phone with the official app that links to the official data base in order to be able to leave their apartments. No phone? Well, then, no proof. So here, pay this fine.

In my humble opinion….your comment goes to the heart of what the push to vaccinate is about….vaccine passports.

I’m not including well meaning health care professionals in my criticism. It’s the sneaky a&@ politicians, hiding behind them.

De Blasio is trying to get the camel’s nose under the tent.

Fat_Freddys_Cat | August 18, 2021 at 7:55 am

The so-called Party Of Science, insisting that the way to handle a virus is to hide under the bed until it goes away.

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to Fat_Freddys_Cat. | August 18, 2021 at 11:45 am

You know, freedom is just a wee bit overrated, don’t you think? I mean, all those choices, and choices, and more choices you have to make. It never ends!

It’s so much better and easier to just let an expert make all those choices for you. Someone who has been to Harvard, or Yale, or even Cornell or Dartmouth, and who has dedicated their lives to service in the government studying the world’s problems and forming solutions to save you from the effort, which is very likely above your mental capacity at any rate.

So just do what you are told by them. If not, well, there will be consequences, of course, but you bring them all upon yourself. They really do have your best interests at heart, So God forbid if something happens to you if you do not obey. God forbid!

Are you kidding? It’s not safe under the bed either. No place is safe. And it’s not going away.

Two Americas are emerging….time for the Liberty states to enact laws banning those from non-Liberty states from entering.
You want it? Boy, you are about to get it!

Meanwhile back in CA, the torches and pitchforks keep emerging:

Maybe it’s the rest of America we need to give back to Mexico?

The experts are wrong. What we’re actually dealing with is a “Pandemic of the Unintelligent”. A mini-series is in the works.

It’s not being enforced until September 13, so it remains to be seen how much compliance there will be until that date.

NYBruin in reply to Milhouse. | August 18, 2021 at 11:16 am

Likely as much enforcement as there is against jaywalking in Midtown

Milhouse in reply to NYBruin. | August 18, 2021 at 4:25 pm

Nope. That was left to the police to enforce, and they refused. The indoor dining bans last year were enforced by the Buildings Department and the Health Department, and their inspectors were zealous and beyond.

“makes it easier for him to enforce rules to keep his business safe”

That assumes a fact not in evidence.

I wonder how much of an uptick there will be for businesses in say, New Jersey?

Seriously, this is going to put people in effective quarantine, where even doing basic things like getting food is going to be a burden.

Not to mention how many people will now face unemployment if they don’t comply. Especially minorities. Businesses everywhere are already having difficulty hiring sufficient staff; this will make it worse.

IMO, this will fail. The optics of 2nd class Citizens being denied entry is not going to be pretty. Lord help NYC if the estimates about the demographics of the unvaccinated are correct.

Also, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that other major Democrat-run cities are probably thinking of doing something similar in the near future.

“you’ll need proof of vaccination to unlock everything New York City has to offer”

Hey, don’t get out of your La-Z-Boy just to unlock anything for me.

“you’ll need proof of vaccination to unlock everything New York City has to offer”

    Muggings.
    High prices.
    Rudeness.

    I can hardly wait.

No exceptions.. That is what I am hearing.. No medical or natural immunity exceptions.

If the people in and around NYC do not challenge this, they deserve it.

SField in reply to amwick. | August 18, 2021 at 1:45 pm

I’m one of those people who cannot get the vaccine for medical reasons. I’m thankful that I live deep in rural Trump territory where the covid insanity never took hold.

I’m not a lawyer but the problem I see with using a natural immunity argument in court is with the medical issue it’s “I can’t take this” vs. with natural immunity it’s “I won’t take this.”

And please don’t start posting statistics or links to statistics about natural immunity; I know about them. Just giving my opinion.

Now, is there a religious exemption? I notice places of worship aren’t included but if you don’t want to get jabbed for religious reasons that could pose a problem for the city too.

      Milhouse in reply to p. | August 18, 2021 at 4:29 pm

No religious exemptions. First of all, which religion is against it? But legally, they only have to grant religious exemptions if they already grant other types of exemptions. If there are no exemptions at all then they don’t have to make one for religion either.

DeBlasio has said that it won’t apply to children who are too young to be vaccinated, but they’ll need to wear masks.

Dathurtz in reply to Milhouse. | August 18, 2021 at 5:19 pm

        Isn’t there an entertainer/athlete exemption?

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to Milhouse. | August 18, 2021 at 11:30 pm

There is a case of the Catholic religion. human fetal cell lines were used in the development of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines and in the development and production of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

However, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has affirmed that members of the Roman Catholic faith may receive all the vaccines. However again, this is not accepted by all laypeople within the church, and a large minority of the Catholic Bishops object to the majority position on the matter. A diocese may hold a different position than the Conference of Bishops.

Despite the majority position of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, a Catholic exemption may be reasonable as many Catholics could hold a valid concern.

Bill de Bolshevik goes full Lenin.

This is a crime against humanity

It is my understanding there are no medical exemptions. Zero.
You have MS? You have cancer? Doctor has told you DO NOT get the vaccine? Sorry, you can’t enter a grocery store, a restaurant, etc. in NYC.

Milhouse in reply to JohnC. | August 18, 2021 at 4:33 pm

Grocery stores are fine, so long as they don’t double as restaurants with indoor seating. Also, it’s fine to enter establishments in order to make purchases and leave, so grocery shopping would still be OK.

It does appear that Reichsfuhrer Wilhelm is once again true to form.

I will say this. In Chicago the unmasked are being treated like that “spiked haired kid kid with the boom box” from the 80s.

A lot of people hate them, but not many will go up to them and say stop it.

Subotai Bahadur | August 18, 2021 at 8:57 pm

I wonder what they will do if traffic into those business establishments just craters? Will they make visits mandatory along with vaccinations by going door to door?

Subotai Bahadur

New Orleans implemented this earlier in the week.

so this moron, DeBlasio that is ,(one has to actually name the person in these days of moronic), thinks paying someone $1,000 PER MONTH and having them live with a “mentor” (someone who has already screwed up but somehow is now ok) in their neighborhood AFTER THEY KILL SOMEONE BY SHOOTING THEM, is a good idea. I was wondering if this murderer needs to be vaccinated and/or have a photo ID to claim the money.

I was also wondering what type of stipend one may get by just severely maiming someone? I say $250/month for a simple permanent injury and $500/month for anything that maims the face. of course, this maimng must happen via a shooting. agree?

““The new regulation is heaven for us. Because now it’s not our idea. We respect the regulation of the city,” Salomone said.”

And this is why Fascism succeeds.
