WomensLaw.org Receives the ‘Celebrating Solutions Award for Excellence’ from the Mary Byron Project

January 11, 2021

The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) is honored to announce that our WomensLaw project received a Celebrating Solutions Award for Excellence from the Mary Byron Project. This award, which is given to a previous Celebrating Solutions Award winner that has best continued to exemplify innovation, leadership, and services to victims of intimate partner violence, will help our team continue critical work to provide free state-specific, plain-language legal information through WomensLaw.org and the Email Hotline.

The pandemic has made the need for free, easily accessible legal information more urgent, especially given the increased isolation many are facing and the economic stressors that are putting legal representation even further out of reach.

Our WomensLaw Email Hotline has also provided a much-needed opportunity for survivors to have their questions answered by our team of legal experts in either English or Spanish. When the legal system seems overwhelming, inaccessible, and unaffordable, the Email Hotline provides a free lifeline and support so a survivor does not need to navigate the legal landscape without help.

WomensLaw continues to thoughtfully and creatively use emerging technology to make legal information accessible to more people, including creating a mobile-friendly site, producing several legal information vlogs, and Online Information Clinics (OICs). These OICs provide survivors with a series of 20-minute videos about restraining orders and, at the time they initially launched, an opportunity to chat live with an attorney.

Thanks to generous donations and this award from the Mary Byron Project, WomensLaw can continue to provide these critical services when they are needed most, while also developing new ways to connect survivors with the support they need.
