New Jersey’s Commemoration of America’s 250th

In 2026, New Jersey, like much of the U.S., will commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution through events, programs, and ceremonies. RevolutionNJ is New Jersey’s official organization charged with planning and promoting our state’s commemoration.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for New Jersey to highlight its unique Revolutionary significance, the diverse stories of the people who lived at that time, and the lasting impact of our nation’s complex history.

RevolutionNJ

RevolutionNJ is working with diverse groups throughout the state to create exciting experiences where people can engage with history, see themselves in the American story, and learn how the events, ideas, and ideals of the Revolution continue to be relevant to us today.

The Commemoration will happen in 2026, with events beginning as early as 2024 and running through 2033.

New Jersey’s Commemoration

The Crossroads of the American Revolution

New Jersey’s strategic location between the new American capital in Philadelphia and the British headquarters in New York meant it was truly a Crossroads of the American Revolution. It was the site of the Battles of Trenton and Princeton (a turning point of the war), more military engagements than any other state, and where George Washington spent more than one-quarter of his time as Commander-in-Chief. Because of its diverse people and uncertain future, it was also the site of fierce ideological battles, based on political, economic, and cultural divisions.
