Infants born to patients in CCI’s CenteringPregnancy® Program are less likely to be born preterm. Only 4.7% of babies born to CCI patients have a low birth weight compared to Maryland’s 8.6%
CCI is the largest WIC provider in the State of Maryland, serving over 31,000 participants a year.
CCI served over 70,000 community members in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in 2024.
Our History
1960s
A group of volunteer health professionals saw a substantial need for health services for at-risk adolescents in Montgomery County, Maryland, opening as Rockville’s Roving Youth Leader Program in 1969.
1970s
In 1972, this group is incorporated as a non-profit organization under the name Community Clinic, Inc (CCI).
1990s
In 1996, CCI is awarded the Montgomery County contract for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women. Infants. and Children (WIC).
2000s
CCI received accreditation form the Joint Commission in 2003, and then went on to be recognized as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 2008. Then in 2009, CCI established its Family Planning Program.
2010s
In 2013 CCI opened its first primary care site in Prince George’s County, which later integrated primary care with dental care, behavioral health, and HIV/infectious disease care. In the following year of 2014, CCI opened its first prenatal care practice in Prince George’s County and became a provider of Refugee Health Assessments for the state of Maryland.
In 2015 CCI was recognized as a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH)by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), launched the integrated HIV Care program, and “CenteringPregnancy” in Prince George’s County. CCI Rockville opened in partnership with Cornerstone Montgomery and Interfaith Works in 2018.
As of 2019, CCI became a direct federal awardee of the Title X Family Planning program expanding to 15,000 family planning encounters annually.
2020
Sonya Bruton, Psy.D., MPA, becomes the Chief Executive Officer and President of CCI Health & Wellness Services. With her leadership, CCI keeps its doors open throughout the COVID Pandemic to serve the community, provide testing and public health education.
2021
CCI Health & Wellness Services becomes the first health center in the state of Maryland to be selected to participate in the Health Center COVID-19 Vaccine Program. The program seeks to ensure Equity in COVID-19 vaccine distribution. It is part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to ramp up the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines to some of the country’s hardest-hit populations.
CCI offers the Moderna vaccine to 800 patients in a mass vaccination event.
CCI hosts its inaugural block party at the CCI Greenbelt location offering music, food, games, and health education to the community. Over 500 neighbors join CCI for the event.
The Wheaton medical site opens colocating WIC and pediatric medical services.
CCI receives a grant totaling nearly $500,000 from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to fund a physician residency program in Prince George’s County. As a result, CCI will officially become the first Teaching Health Center in Maryland.
2022
CCI Health & Wellness Services becomes CCI Health Services and unveils a new brand identity complete with a redesigned logo to complement the name change. Both the rebrand and 50th anniversary celebration marks a new era for CCI Health Services.
2022
CCI Health Services opens its new administrative offices in Downtown Silver Spring. The purchase of the building is a first for CCI and demonstrates the organization’s commitment to the community they serve.
2023
CCI Health Services expands its Silver Spring health center site. The expanded location includes a teaching kitchen, offices, and 28 exam rooms.
2024
CCI Health Centers closes its original Greenbelt, MD health center location in Franklin Park and opens a new 48,000 sq ft site on Ora Glen Drive in Greenbelt. The building is CCI’s second purchase and an investment in the Greenbelt community. It includes 64 exam rooms, a 300+ person meeting space, and will house medical training programs.

Community Health Centers are the nation’s largest network of primary health care providers, increasing access to care for all, regardless of ability to pay, on a sliding scale fee.

Who Do Community Health Centers Serve? Everyone. Community Health Centers are open to everyone regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. Nationally, Community Health Centers serve 32.5 million patients.
Where are Community Health Centers Located? EVERYWHERE. Community Health Centers can be found in communities across the United States. There are over 1,500 Community Health Center organizations in over 16,000 rural, urban, and suburban communities.
