For the Prayer Vigil, we are gathering during the important Court Hearing in the Leandro v. NC Court Case. We are lamenting the 27 years since the Leandro v. NC Court Case began that determined NC is not living up to its constitutional obligations, and we call on the NC Legislature to fully enact the Leandro Plan as required by the Courts. We have a moral obligation to care for children, and that includes providing them the basic education needed to flourish. PNCC is a member of the Every Child NC Coalition. Since (at least) 1994 the state of NC has not been providing the “sound basic education” the NC Constitution requires. This is known as Leandro v. NC or "Leandro" for short. October 18th is the Hearing Date with Judge Lee for progress monitoring on the 8 Year Leandro Plan that the Court has approved to ensure NC is meeting its constitutional obligations. We need the NC Legislature to provide the resources and funds to #LeadWithLeandro.
Our permit has been approved, so time and location are confirmed. Bicentennial Plaza is between the entrances to the NC Museum of History and the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, and we'll be at the Jones Street end. Masks are required, and Clergy Collar/Stole/Religious Dress is encouraged. Bring a lawn chair if you'd like to sit during the event. Covid-safe social distancing will be observed.
Anyone who supports the Leandro Plan and is willing to stand with Pastors for NC Children and the Every Child NC Coalition is invited to attend and stand in support. Contact Rev. Suzanne Parker Miller, Director of Pastors for NC Children, for more information. PastorsForNCchildren.org
