Truth from Youth: The Asian American Experience in BPS High Schools

The purpose of this report is to illuminate Asian American students’ experiences relative to students from other large racial groups in Boston high schools through School Climate Survey analysis. The report concludes with a series of recommendations about how to mitigate the harm that the Model Minority Myth and Perpetual Foreigner stereotype inflict on Asian American students by either making them invisible or making them targets. This technical report presents an analysis of how the experiences and attitudes of Boston Public Schools (BPS) high school students differ by school and by race, and the extent to which these experiences and attitudes differ within and across schools. Truth from Youth Media Coverage

A new report commissioned by members of the Massachusetts Asian American Educators Association finds that Asian American students in Boston Public High Schools are more likely to report feeling an absence of belonging, and a lack of interest from teachers as compared to Black, Latino or white students.
