Opportunities to Give Back

We Can’t do the Work We Do Without You.

Even though we do our best to be a presence in our community, we can’t be everywhere at once, but we try. This is where you can help. If you’re interested in local government, or a civic engagement, school activities or the like, here are some opportunities that might interest you:

(Sign up below. Note: use the link at the top of the page to volunteer for flood response.)

DONATE OR ADOPT A TREE:

Nearly 4,000 trees grace Livingston's boulevards and public spaces. They bring beauty, provide shade in the summertime, habitat for wildlife and shelter from our infamous wind!

But maintaining a healthy community forest is more challenging than ever, and ash trees -- about half of Livingston's community trees -- are threatened by the emerald ash borer, invasive beetles that have already killed millions of ash trees across the country.

To mitigate the impacts of climate change and invasive insects and improve the resiliency of our community forest in 2021, PCEC launched the Tree Fund! A restricted fund to purchase, plant and care for new trees! Want to help PCEC create a more resilient community forest? Donate to the Tree Fund or sign up to receive a Free Boulevard Tree!

Boomerang Bags:

Do you like to sew? We need volunteers for our Boomerang Bags Program. Boomerang Bags is an initiative aimed at reducing the use of plastic shopping bags by engaging community members to upcycling, or recycle fiber from the community to make home-sewn reusable bags as a fun sustainable alternative. These bags are then provided to the community at local grocery stores and the library. Take a bag to carry your things home, and then simply return the next time for someone else to use.

Attend a Meeting:

Showing up can make a difference. Attending a city or county commission meeting provides a great opportunity to learn about our local government and a way to engage in local policy and decision making. Local planning board meetings are also open to the public. Your perspective and feedback can help us convey critical information back to our community.

Write a Letter to the Editor, or Submit a Public Comment:

Do you have something to say? We can help give you the tools and guidance in writing effective letters and comments. It’s not always as easy as it appears, but we teach you some important skills and methods for effective communication concerning important issues.

Host a House Party:

Do you and a group of friends want to learn more about some of the local issues we’re working on? We’d be happy to gather for an afternoon, or evening of conversation to fill you in on what we do, or to lead a group in an informal training on effective engagement and communications, like letter writing or giving public comment at a meeting.

Organize a Fundraiser:

We know it’s not easy to say, but we need to raise money to do the work we do. You can help us by hosting a fundraising event at you home or at a venue here in Park County, or by volunteering to help us with an open house, membership drive, or our annual member rendezvous. Help us raise awareness and some operating funds.
