Building Bridges Not Walls: Nonviolent Communication in Action

6-Week Course Every Tuesday Beginning February 2, 2021
Online via Zoom for 90 minutes

Are you eager to find a way to connect with people across differences? Even when (especially when?) the gap between you seems huge?

This experiential, interactive course will offer you principles and skills to support you in this key aspect of nonviolent social change.

  • Discover the liberating power of self-responsibility

  • Increase your effectiveness and enjoyment of such "difficult" conversations

  • Shift from diatribes to dialogues through empathy and authenticity

  • Build confidence for boldly asking for what you really want

  • Learn how to hear (or say) no while staying connected

  • Begin to explore how to embody "power with" in our conversations

  • Transform enemy images of people we disagree with

The course content will be shaped in part by the real-life questions and situations that participants share, to ensure that it is relevant and practical.

This course can benefit you in all areas of your life, from social change work to communicating with your family, friends, and colleagues.

About the Facilitator: Jean loves the power of nonviolence to light up our hearts, give meaning to our lives, and build connection across division. She has been certified as a Nonviolent Communication trainer since 2013, ordained as an interspiritual/interfaith minister, and has been certified as a Dances of Universal Peace leader. Her involvement with spiritual activism/social change goes back many years: working for the Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign, being arrested for civil disobedience (to protest weapons and war), and marching about oh so many different issues, and more. Jean has also worked as a social worker and mental health counselor.
