The Director of Community Engagement & Government Affairs will report to the Executive Director and must be within commuting distance of Washington, DC.

The Campaign for Trauma-Informed Policy & Practice (CTIPP) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization leading the movement to create conditions for community-led, trauma-informed, prevention-oriented, resilience-focused, and healing-centered approaches, programs, environments, and systems to impact people’s lives positively. The Director of Community Engagement & Government Affairs will nurture and grow relationships with community members, policymakers, and government officials to elevate promising practices around the country, connect constituents with Congressional offices, learn about opportunities to leverage resources and support to continue growing the movement and mobilize advocates to support our policy priorities (E.G., funding for cross-sector coalitions).
Responsibilities and Duties
Continue developing our strategy to grow and sustain CTIPP’s Community Advocacy Network and PressOn Network
Build and maintain relationships with Members of Congress and their staff to achieve policy goals and connect constituents to offices when opportunities arise
Learn from and promote innovative applications and connect communities and states where there are opportunities for peer learning
Create conditions of empowerment for advocates across the country to mobilize in educating their members of Congress and supporting CTIPP policies and practices
Serve as a key point of contact for communities and states concerning advocacy/legislative opportunities
Gather and effectively communicate great work in communities nationwide with government officials, staffers, and other communities.
Work with the Director of Communications & Outreach to draft and distribute various communications that promote the organization and invite people to join the movement, as well as keep advocates up-to-date on current opportunities
Provide relevant updates and emerging information on calls and in meetings, such as CTIPP CAN calls, coalition meetings, and webinars
Track key legislation and activity on the Hill and look for strategic opportunities to advance the movement
Support the development of talking points and toolkits to support advocates’ mobilization and outreach
Partake in and lead relevant coalition meetings on CTIPP’s behalf
Actively participate in internal team meetings, providing collaborative input on federal policy work
Bolster CTIPP’s image on the national and global landscape
Embody/model trauma-informed values and principles in engagement
Skills and Qualifications

Knowledgeable about trauma and commitment to the values of trauma-informed care
Professional work experience in government and/or government relations
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with elected officials and staff
Professional experience working alongside community members and a commitment to uplifting diverse voices of lived experience
Demonstrated superior ability to be an effective and persuasive communicator, both orally and in writing
Ability to bridge divides and work across the political spectrum
Able to present complex information in a coherent, persuasive manner in a variety of forums
Great interpersonal skills and ability to work well as part of a team
Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism
Ability to lead/self-motivate and take initiative to drive work forward
Ability to perform complex legislative and regulatory analysis to make recommendations on possible courses of action
Ability to advocate independently and effectively in meetings and presentations
Time management and organization skills
Demonstrated proficiency with Google Drive and Microsoft Suite

Work Environment, Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time position with benefits (Health, Dental, and Vision, and 403(b) plan) with a starting salary of $70,000-$90,000/year.
This job operates in a home office setting and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and scan/fax machines. Applicants should be based in/willing to relocate to the Washington, DC metro area because they will need to attend in-person meetings on Capitol Hill and with coalitions. Some additional travel will be required.
*NOTE: CTIPP currently does not have an office, so this position requires the ability to work from home and will continue for the foreseeable future. Therefore, the ability to successfully work in a remote environment is essential. Travel is required at times for this position.
