It is with great sadness that I share the passing of Shane Fitzsimons, a dear friend, a cherished AIG colleague, and a highly respected member of the global business community.    Shane leaves behind a legacy of extraordinary leadership, resolute commitment, and a passion for striving towards excellence in everything that he did. He was an exceptional mentor and guide to those around him and had a positive impact on the lives and careers of so many who had the privilege of learning from and working with him.    Shane first joined AIG in 2019 as Global Head of Shared Services and partnered closely with the Executive Leadership Team to prepare the groundwork that has put AIG in the position of strength it enjoys today. As I always have said, that was his entry point. He also showed exceptional leadership in our AIG 200 efforts during the peak of the pandemic before ultimately being appointed as Chief Financial Officer in October of 2021.    Shane loved being the Chief Financial Officer of AIG and he was a key driver in helping with the successful IPO of Corebridge Financial in a very challenging market.    Along the way, he became a great ally and was a trusted advisor and thought partner.    Shane had an impressive career before he arrived at AIG. Notably, he spent over 20 years at General Electric in various senior leadership positions.    Shane operated with the highest integrity, brought remarkable energy, a tireless work ethic and a never-give-up attitude that was contagious and inspired teams around the world. As a friend and colleague, Shane will be remembered for a long time at AIG for the amazing work he did, the strong teams he built, the colleagues he guided, and the relationships he developed.    The company won't be the same without him.    On behalf of AIG’s Board of Directors and colleagues, we send our deepest condolences to his wife, Deirdre, and his children. 

I am pleased to announce that we have extended our partnership with Georgia Hall as an AIG Ambassador through 2027. Georgia’s world-class talent, commitment to excellence, plus our shared values, make her the perfect representative for AIG. In addition to her exceptional golf skills, we admire her positive influence on young golfers and the role model she has become for the next generation of women’s professional golfers. Your world-class talent was an inspiration this week as you maintained your focus, drive and outstanding play in an incredibly competitive field. Your commitment to excellence was clearly evident and we are proud to call you our Champion.   Also, congratulations to all the women golfers who competed in this year’s Championship. Watching the high quality of skill on a challenging golf course exemplifies why we are so proud to be the title sponsor of the AIG Women’s Open. With Championship Golf as our backdrop, it was terrific to welcome a group of promising women insurance professionals to the AIG Women’s Leadership Forum at the 2023 AIG Women’s Open.    This unique career development and networking program brought together high potential women in our industry, and it was terrific to have a conversation with them about a wide range of important topics, including technologies shaping our industry, business trends and emerging risks, and attracting and developing the next generation of talent.   Hosting this Forum at the AIG Women’s Open aligns with a core value at AIG of being an ally to women in golf, business, and society more broadly.

Earlier today at a pre-Championship press conference at Walton Heath, Martin Slumbers, CEO of The R&A, and I announced that AIG is reaffirming its commitment to women’s golf by extending AIG’s partnership with The R&A as the title sponsor of the AIG Women’s Open through 2030. This long-term extension reinforces our commitment to providing leadership on a global scale on important issues including gender equity and gender pay equity.    In this spirit, AIG and The R&A also announced an increase to the total prize fund for this year’s Championship to $9 million – a 23% increase from 2022. Our overall goal as title sponsor of the AIG Women’s Open is to serve as allies to women golfers, as well as to women in business and society more broadly. I am pleased to announce that Christopher Schaper, currently CEO of AIG Re, has been named Global Chief Underwriting Officer of AIG, effective as of the closing of the previously announced sale of Validus Re to RenaissanceRe, which is expected to occur in the fourth quarter of 2023.   Since joining AIG in 2019, Chris has been a result-driven and collaborative leader who has demonstrated a commitment to underwriting excellence.   I have worked with Chris for many years and look forward to continuing to collaborate with him in his new role.

Yesterday, we published AIG’s 2022 Annual Report, which includes highlights of the significant progress we made last year on our strategic priorities. The Annual Report also showcases AIG’s risk expertise, market leading global businesses and our Purpose & Values. I am extremely proud of what our colleagues have accomplished over the last few years, and particularly in 2022. Our journey to become a top-performing company, delivering excellence in all that we do, will continue in 2023 and beyond as we focus on long-term, sustainable value creation for all our stakeholders.
