CarePortal provides nearly $50K in economic impact for CASA kids

Did you know that since CASA started partnering with CarePortal back in September of 2019, we have had over 100 requests met and have served over 150 children?

CarePortal uses a web-based system where CASA submits a need of a child/family through their website and then an email is sent to local churches, businesses, and individuals in El Paso and Teller counties to give them an opportunity to meet that need.

The economic impact of the requests we’ve had met in the almost two years of the partnership equals $48,633!

One of the most unique requests that was met was for a youth who wanted to play the accordion, and a community member donated the instrument!  There have been requests as small as a pair of work gloves ($12) for a youth who likes to work in the barn  at his foster home, and requests as large as a to a specialized computer needed for a youth aging out of foster care ($1400).

CarePortal also regularly helps with furniture needs, art supplies, toys/gifts that are not available in the Kid’s Closet, bikes, clothing, and much more. This is what advocates are saying about CarePortal:

“In a time where resources are especially limited, CarePortal has never once failed to fulfill my requests on behalf of those I serve as a CASA,” said advocate Susan Varnier. “CarePortal has provided furniture, scooters, grocery gift cards, snow boots, clothing, and more to the kiddos on my (two) cases. What a valuable service for those in need!”

“CASA’s Care Portal has been a lifesaver for several families on cases I have been assigned to,” added advocate Janele Johnson. “No sooner do I request a bigger-ticket item that a caretaker does not have  (like a highchair or portable crib) than I hear back from Kristina that her city-wide crew of caring donors is already busily scouring the network of wonderful givers for one who will accept my request. Families often receive that crib, highchair or activity center delivered straight to their doorstep within a week or so of the original request.  ‘Grateful’ doesn’t begin to describe the response of the families I know who have benefited from Care Portal.”

CarePortal is a global community that boasts 2,800 church response teams in 27 states and has created a $32 million economic impact to help stabilize and strengthen famlies in crisis. Worldwide, the organization just served its 100,000th child!

If you have a need for a child you serve that you think could be met through a CarePortal request, please reach out to Kristina Wrobleski at KristinaW@casappr.org or fill out the CASA of the Pikes Peak Region CarePortal request form.
