Submit work to the AAJA Journalism Excellence Awards
We’re proud to announce the return of our Journalism Excellence Awards, which underwent restructuring over the past year in the spirit of innovation and boldly moving forward. These awards will honor the best of journalism over the past two years, recognizing works produced by AAJA members in 2020 and 2021. Submit work for consideration by Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

Continuing to honor Corky Lee
January 27 marked the one-year anniversary of Corky Lee’s death. Corky was a beloved AAJA-er, incredible photographer and AAPI trailblazer who continues to inspire new generations of photojournalists today. In honor of his memory, the AAJA Photojournalists Affinity Group and AAJA-New York have upcoming opportunities dedicated to celebrating his memory and work. Stay tuned for more details.

  • JCamp 2022 Our flagship summer training program for high school students will be in Los Angeles this year. Apply by March 31.
  • VOICES 2022Apply to our journalism program for college students by March 31.
  • *new* The Sacramento Bee internship | In partnership with The Sacramento Bee, AAJA-Sacramento is sponsoring a paid 10-week summer internship program for aspiring journalists. Apply by April 1.

External Opportunities 

  • The Thousand Miles Project | UCP and writer/producer Soo Hugh has launched a talent incubator dedicated to jumpstarting the careers of writers with Asian Pacific Islander stories to tell. Apply to join their inaugural class by March 31.  
  • OpenNews stipends | OpenNews is offering stipends to journalists who work with data and code, which they can use for conference expenses, including #AAJA22. The first round of applications is open until February 11.

The Space: “How healthy are your relationships? A conversation about establishing clear boundaries among relationships in the family, workplace, and community.” Join clinician and speaker Jeanie Y. Chang, LMFT, CCTP, CIMHP for our first session of The Space this year, honoring heart health month through healthy relationship-building. We'll have an open, honest conversation about experiencing a sense of belonging while living with ongoing trauma in the pandemic. Save the date.

Book Club with Stephanie Foo Join AAJA-New York for a chat with Stephanie Foo ahead of her memoir, What My Bones Know, releasing on February 22Stephanie looked great on paper—a producer at This American Life, a loving boyfriend. But behind closed doors, she was crying every morning in her office. When she was finally diagnosed with complex PTSD, her polished veneer came crashing down. In What My Bones Know, Stephanie embarks on a healing journey, researching the science and psychology of C-PTSD and trying out a number of treatments. An unflinching memoir filled with relentless hope, Publisher’s Weekly called What My Bones Know “a work of immense beauty.”
