We’re excited to introduce you to the students who have joined Bayou City Waterkeeper as legal interns for the spring semester.

Bella Cherry, South Texas College of Law (2L)

Bella is a second-year law student at South Texas College of Law. She is a Chicago native, growing up with fond memories of Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes. She received her degree in French Language & Literature from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign before moving to Houston and beginning her career in law. She is a founding member of the student chapter of the National Lawyers Guild at South Texas and is passionate about social issues, including environmental justice. This interest in environmental justice and equity drew her to working for Bayou City Waterkeeper to learn more about what it takes to protect the Lower Galveston Bay watershed.

Noorulanne Jan, University of Texas School of Law (3L)

Noorulanne is a 3L at the University of Texas School of Law. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, she’s always been passionate about issues that affect our city and has a myriad of interests to work towards intersectional justice in Houston: education inequity, indigent defense, and environmental justice. Before spending some time teaching in Houston, Noorulanne graduated from Texas Tech University with triple majors in English, Political Science, and Sociology with a minor in legal studies. Since then, she’s spent time in different parts of Texas and has been drawn to the various ways people bring connection and draw purpose from the land they inhabit. While in law school, she has interned at various places like the U.S. Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Southern District of Texas and Lone Star Legal Aid, and she was a research assistant for the environmental law clinic at UT Law. For the past four years, Noorulanne has worked as an ESL teacher for immigrants (most recently with BakerRipley). She enjoys criminology podcasts, stargazing, and all things Houston.

Eric Lee Chee, Vermont Law School (3L)

Eric is a third-year law student at Vermont Law School. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Eric moved to and grew up in Katy, Texas. In 2018, Eric graduated from Saint Edward’s University with a B.S., majoring in Environmental Science and Policy with a minor in Political Science. During university, Eric decided to attend Vermont Law School to pursue a J.D. with a concentration in water law. Prior to joining Bayou City Waterkeeper, Eric completed an internship for a U.S. District Court. He enjoys fishing, playing soccer, skateboarding, hiking, reading and travelling. Eric is excited about the opportunity to work with Bayou City Waterkeeper to advocate for protecting Houston’s vital water systems so that all can enjoy the many benefits the water systems provide.

Camilla Morrison, St. Mary’s School of Law (3L)

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Camilla is a third-year law student at St. Mary’s University School of Law. Camilla graduated from Rhodes College with a major in History before moving to Spain to pursue a master’s degree in International Development Cooperation with the Institute for Migration Studies at Madrid’s Universidad Pontificia Comillas. She went on to work at a Spanish international development NGO managing economic development and aid projects throughout Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East, before returning to San Antonio to attend law school. Since then, Camilla has interned with the Equal Justice Center, Diocesan Migrant and Refugee Services, the Migrant Center for Human Rights, and she currently serves as the president of the Water and Environmental Law Society. Camilla is passionate about the sustainability of our natural resources and ecosystems and she is eager to further the efforts of Bayou City Waterkeeper during her final semester.
