BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A day before his funeral, dozens of people showed up to Rest Haven Funeral Home to honor the life of Master Trooper Adam Gaubert.
Outside the funeral home, flags were placed in the ground as the community showed up to pay their respects to the late trooper.
People said they wanted to come out and honor Gaubert and his family. Last week, the 19-year veteran of Louisiana State Police was shot and killed.
“He was [an] innocent person sitting on the side of the road doing paperwork from a previous accident and was ambushed,” said Louisiana State Captain of the Patriot Guard Riders Roland Sanchez.
Retired State Police Sergeant Chuck Miller remembers Gaubert as a man who upheld his badge with honor.
“Appreciation of what he did because he can’t give no much more than this when you give your life,” said Miller.
He and many others said it’s not easy losing a brother in blue.
“I talked to his parents inside and I can tell they’re really appreciated, they seem to appreciate all the support,” said Miller.
“Police officers get up every day knowing that they’re putting their life on the line to help protect us and keep us safe and when you see something like this, it’s just such a tragedy. We felt compelled to be out here to show support to the family,” said Sanchez.
For Miller and Sanchez, being at this visitation was a way to honor Gaubert’s life and show his family they don’t stand alone.
“Be thankful he’s in a better place. Cause he did, he’s, he went to a better place,” said Miller.
“We will do anything we can to help them get through this. I know it’s rough and it’s going to take time,” said Sanchez.
