Seeking Nominations for U.S. Representatives to IASC
Deadline: Friday, September 2
The Polar Research Board (PRB) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine serves as the U.S. National Committee to the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), a non-governmental, international scientific organization that promotes and facilitates cooperation in all aspects of Arctic research. In this role, the PRB is responsible for the selection of the U.S. Delegate and two members to each of the Working Groups (WGs) of IASC.
The terms for three of our delegates will soon be ending and we are seeking nominations for candidates to serve in the following WGs:
Cryosphere WG
Terrestrial WG
Marine WG
Nominees must have appropriate disciplinary expertise, current relevant scientific activity, be active in communicating with the scientific community, and have a demonstrated ability to function in a collaborative, international setting. Those selected must stay in close communication with the PRB, the relevant federal agencies, and the U.S. science community so that they can accurately reflect U.S. interests at meetings. Self-nominations are welcome.
The National Academies are committed to enhancing diversity and inclusion in order to strengthen the quality of our work. Diverse perspectives contribute to finding innovative approaches and solutions to challenging issues. We encourage the nomination of a diverse set of experts, including candidates from underrepresented races, ethnicities, and gender identities; people with disabilities; and a range of early- and mid-career professionals. Self-nominations are welcome.
Please submit your nominations by Friday, September 2 to April Melvin (AMelvin@nas.edu). Include the candidate’s name, affiliation, area of expertise, and a few sentences about why the nominee is appropriate. Feel free to forward this request for nominations to others.
