Tegna’s Washington, D.C. CBS affiliate WUSA has promoted assistant news director Caridad Hernandez to news content director.

Hernandez has been the assistant news director for the last two years and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the news department.

“We are thrilled to promote Cari to this new role leading our entire newsroom,” said WUSA vice president and station manager Michael Valentine. “Her leadership style fits perfectly with our station’s values. She has already had a tremendous impact in her three years at WUSA9—and we are very fortunate to have her on our team.”

She has also previously served as a broadcast teacher for high school journalism students—and as a mentor/instructor for the Poynter Institute.
