A recent study found Chicago-area lenders invested more money in a single majority-white neighborhood on the North Side than they did in all of Chicago’s majority-Black neighborhoods combined. Chicago’s majority-white communities receive 4.6 times the investment that Black communities do and two times the investment in Latinx communities. Imagine how robust and thriving our region would be if the disinvested areas of the South and West sides were as economically strong and stable as North Side neighborhoods.

A panel discussion will explore how attracting capital to the region’s disinvested Black and Latinx communities is essential to rebuilding and recovery. The conversation will be moderated by Gloria Castillo, director of We Rise Together: For an Equitable and Just Recovery, a multi-faceted initiative providing funding, encouraging changes to business practices, and pursuing policy reforms to ensure the region recovers from the pandemic’s health, economic and social crises stronger and more resilient.
