Pro-Life Victory: Over one-third of abortion clinics in PA have closed since 2012

Dec 12, 2019 | 0 comments

A new national report shows that one-third of independent abortion clinics have closed since 2012.

That national trend is reflected here in Pennsylvania. Nine abortion clinics in Pennsylvania – 38% – have closed since 2012.

At that time, there were 24 abortion facilities across the Commonwealth. That year (2012) marks a turning point in Pennsylvania with a law going into effect that required abortion clinics to follow the same rules and safety regulations as any other facility performing surgery in the state.

Your support of the Pennsylvania Family Institute has helped to advance pro-life laws like this one. For more on that story, click here.

Here’s the list of the nine abortion clinics closed in Pennsylvania since 2012:

  1. Allegheny Women’s Center – Pittsburgh (2012)
  2. Allentown Medical Services (2012)
  3. American Women’s Services (2012)
  4. Berger and Benjamin (2019)
  5. Drexel OB/GYN Associates (2019)
  6. Easton Planned Parenthood (2017)
  7. Hillcrest Women’s Medical Center (2017)
  8. University of Pittsburgh Physicians Suite 2541 (2012)
  9. UPMC Magee – Suite 4750 Womancare Associates Teal Physician Office (2012)

In addition, if you go back to 2010, another fifteen Planned Parenthood “feeder” clinics across PA have since closed (these referral clinics did not bring in revenue directly from abortion services):

  1. Ambler (2011)
  2. Bristol (2017)
  3. Carlisle (2013)
  4. Chambersburg (2016)
  5. Collegeville (2013)
  6. Doylestown (2011)
  7. Gettysburg (2016)
  8. Hanover (2014)
  9. Hazleton (2010)
  10. Philadelphia – Chestnut Street (2016)
  11. Red Lion (2016)
  12. Scranton (2016)
  13. St. Davids (2015)
  14. State College (2011)
  15. Stroudsburg (2017)

Planned Parenthood is now looking for ways to increase their abortion services in Pennsylvania. They recently announced plans to begin abortions by video – “webcam abortions” – where abortion drugs would be mailed to women without an in-person consultation. This is an unsafe practice that goes against federal guidelines on the abortion drug. To contact your State Senator to stop abortions by video in Pennsylvania, visit pafamily.org/notelemedabortions
