THE CARMELITE NGO is a United Nations (UN) presence and advocacy project of the members of the Carmelite Family around the world. It is s recognised by the UN as a Research and Independent NGO (RINGO). It is comprised of the men and women from around the world who are members of the Carmelite religious Order or its affiliated Congregations and Institutes within the Catholic Church.
ITS MISSION is to actively participate in creating a more peaceful, just and loving world by advocating and caring for the spiritual and material needs of the human family and the environment.
ITS ACTION focuses on: care for the environment, human trafficking, freedom of belief, education of children and youth, hunger, and poverty. It provides the Carmelite perspective on every area before the United Nations.
It is a NETWORK for Carmelites who are involved in specific issues of Justice, Peace and Care for Creation, fostering the integral human development in an Integral Ecology perspective.
For the Season of Creation as a time of reflection, action and celebration for the care of Creation, it is important that the community is engaged and inspired. We invite you to use these resources to share the word with your community, invite your bishop, pastor or other regional authority to join in the celebration, and even take the action to audiences outside the Church, reaching out to local media.
In his message for this Season, Pope Francis said that “it is an opportunity to cultivate our ecological conversion” and asked that we “return to pray in the great cathedral of creation, enjoying the ‘grandiose cosmic choir’ of countless creatures singing praises to God.”
