Rancher, Outfitter, and Conservationist Bob Model Receives First Dingell-Young Sportsmen's Legacy Award at 33rd Annual CSF Banquet and Auction

September 15, 2022 (WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Yesterday, Robert “Bob” Model of Cody, Wyoming was honored at the 33rd Annual Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) Banquet and Auction with the inaugural Dingell-Young Sportsmen’s Legacy Award – the highest honor awarded by CSF.

Named for conservation policy icons Reps. John Dingell Sr. and Jr., Rep. Debbie Dingell, and Rep. Don Young, the Dingell-Young Award is conferred to individuals who best exemplify the extraordinary individual and collaborative leadership of the Dingell family and Representative Young.

To be eligible for the Dingell-Young Award, an individual must demonstrate leadership and long-standing dedication to advancing two or more of the following areas: national conservation policy, the role of sportsmen and women in conservation, expanding public access to hunting, fishing and/or recreational shooting, increasing the engagement of youth and underrepresented communities in sporting pursuits, and promoting our outdoor heritage in the policy arena.

The owner and operator of Mooncrest Ranch, Bob Model stands among the most important wildlife conservation advocates in modern times, and has been responsible for countless projects, from the dynamic growth of elk herds in northwest Wyoming to the founding of the American Wildlife Conservation Partners (AWCP). In addition to his work in the field, Bob has also provided policy counsel to multiple Presidential Administrations and has served on numerous committees and boards including the Sporting Conservation Council, the Wildlife and Hunting Heritage Conservation Council, the Hunting and Shooting Sports Conservation Council, and the National Conservation Leadership Institute.

Additionally, Bob Model is the past Chairman of CSF’s Board of Directors, and most recently served as an Honorary CSF Board Member in recognition of his tremendous commitment to facilitating CSF’s growth over the last two decades.

“This award is given in recognition of, and with our gratitude for the lifetime of work that Bob has dedicated to the sporting-conservation community,” said CSF President and CEO Jeff Crane. “His legacy is one that befits the conservation legends for whom the award is named, and I cannot think of a more deserving individual to receive this honor.”

In attendance for the award ceremony were approximately 60 members of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus in addition to sporting-conservation professionals, industry partners, as well as numerous current and former CSF staff members that have benefited from Mr. Model’s leadership . CSF applauds Bob Model for his commitment to America’s 55 million sportsmen and women, and we are grateful for his decades of leadership in the sporting-conservation policy arena.
