Leupold’s Bruce Pettet Named Honorary Commander by 142nd Wing of Portland’s Air National Guard

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Leupold & Stevens, Inc., provider of the world’s most rugged, lightweight, and clear sport optics, is pleased to announce that President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Pettet has been named to the Honorary Commanders Program by the Portland’s Air National Guard’s 142nd Operations Support Flight.

The Honorary Commanders Program is designed to build meaningful partnerships between members of the Air Force and the local communities in which they serve and live. Its objectives include encouraging an exchange of ideas, experiences, friendship, and support between local community leaders and the local military community.

“As the CEO of Leupold and Stevens, Inc., that employs over 700 people in the Portland area and is a 5th generation family-owned company, we feel that Bruce is a perfect fit for Honorary Command of the 142nd Operations Support Flight,” Lt. Col. Daniel B. McAllister, USAF, and Commander of the 142nd Operations Support Flight said in a memorandum. “We are a family here in the Air Guard and maintain the Air Force Core Values: Integrity First, Service before Self, and Excellence in all we do. Similarly, Leupold’s own core values resonate with us.”

The Honorary Commanders Program selects community and business leaders and pairs them with military commanders for a two-year duration, giving those leaders the opportunity to learn more about local military activities, their impact on the local economy, and various aspects of the national defense system at both formal events and informal interactions. Honorary commanders are encouraged to periodically visit their assigned unit, form a personal relationship with the unit’s commander, senior enlisted leader, and Airmen, integrate their assigned unit into their civilian sphere of interest and influence, and more.

“Every member of the Portland Air National Guard is a living example of the noble concept of service before self–and, more than that, they’re our family members, friends, and neighbors in the Pacific Northwest,” Pettet said. “I look forward to working with them in the years to come, and promise to bring the same relentless dedication to my Honorary Commander duties as they do each and every day in serving our nation.”
