CFLS Food Distribution is Open

We are thrilled to announce our food distribution reopened June 30th. It is now open every Tuesday from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. CFLS provides emergency food and clothing to homeless and low-income families and individuals, as well as women returning home from a period of incarceration. Our Drop-in Center serves clients in our programs with immediate and unexpected needs and caters to those with short term needs who may not need ongoing case management.

CFLS Speakers Bureau Partners with the One in Four Podcast

Earlier this year, CFLS joined forces with One in Four Podcast. We are excited about the release of the first episode of Season Two, based on the work from Aaliyah Polite, our Cohort 2 Speakers Bureau graduate! In this first conversation around the role of technology in reentry amidst a pandemic, Ms. Polite speaks with Marcus Bullock, Founder and CEO of Flikshop.

Members of our Speakers Bureau are supporting One in Four Podcast's mission of humanizing, educating, and elevating conversations about the reentry process of individuals coming out of the U.S. prison system. If you would like to donate to our work, you can submit a tax deductible donation. Your contribution will go toward fair compensation, production costs such as sound editing and subscription services, and post-production. Together, we can do more to support justice-involved women in the District of Columbia.

Participants will receive training in the following areas: Active Listening – Setting the Stage for Understanding and Listening, Understanding Power, Privilege & Leadership, Use of Self - Building a Safe Learning Environment, The Basics of Public Speaking, The Ladder of Inference & Trauma Informed Care, Building Public Speaking Skills, and Research, Writing, and Speaking to the Council of the District of Columbia.

Early Intervention Services Wellness Group

Last week, we hosted a Wellness Group with House of Ruth as part of our Early Intervention Services (EIS). Our guest speaker was Cortlen Yarbrough of DC AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP). Through EIS, we target justice involved women through a continuum of women's reentry programming. A period of incarceration has a tremendous impact on one’s ability to effectively manage their health, so we offer education, testing, and linking to wellness and health care. Our goal is to reach as many as possible, teach all who will listen, test everyone in need, link to services that will guide, and keep clients connected to care. We are committed to client engagement to ensure adherence to treatment. To learn more, please visit cflsdc.org/quickie.

CFLS Launches The Passport to Success App

A first of its kind, the Passport to Success App provides the ability for clients to securely store all personal information in one place. Clients who have chronic health challenges, experienced domestic violence, who are homeless, or who have been to jail or prison often do not have the current information that is required to facilitate their forward movement. By giving clients a tool that puts them in charge of their own data, they feel empowered, liberated, and have more control over their own life and their own choices.

The Passport to Success App is designed for use by both clients and case managers. The app allows case managers to work in partnership with the clients as they fill out the passport and collect relevant information. The App is available on Google Play, App Store, and the web. For more information, please visit cflsdc.org/the-passport-to-success-tool.

Virtual Services

The COVID-19 pandemic has nudged us to generate innovative ways to continue serving our clients, their families, and the community at large. We are proud of the multitude of comprehensive programming that we have provided virtually over the past several months. CFLS is in the process of securing laptops, tablets, hot spots, and other technology to equip our clients with the necessary tools to participate in ongoing virtual programming. With this investment, we will be able to expand our service offerings virtually on a more permanent basis. The ultimate goal is to serve our clients just as we would in person.

You can view our upcoming virtual programming on our events page. Please help us spread the word!
