Organization: Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions (FACS)

Location: Northern Virginia

 

The Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions (FACS), a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has become a recognized catalyst in addressing climate change in Northern Virginia.  While FACS’s work has been focused primarily on Fairfax County, VA, and some at the state level, FACS recently established hubs in the Arlington, Alexandria, and Prince William County and it has plans to organize hubs in other areas of Virginia.  Since its founding in 2013, FACS has grown to a network of over 80 faith communities representing a wide spectrum of faith traditions, including Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and Unitarian Universalist with a mailing list of over 2500 people.

 

FACS seeks an Executive Director who shares our passion for the earth and all living things.  The Executive Director will be assisted by a Digital Organizer and a Community Organizer for Prince William County.  In the past FACS has also employed short term contractors whom the Executive Director has managed.  FACS plans to grow its staff over the next several years. 

 

Salary and benefits:

$75,000-85,000 per year depending on the candidate’s background and experience, plus a benefits package that includes health care and a retirement plan for the Executive Director.  The Executive Director may take up to 2 weeks paid leave, 1 week of paid study leave, and 1 week of paid sick leave per year. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising
    • Identifying and applying for grants
    • Cultivating donor relationships
    • Managing digital and in-person fundraising campaigns
    • Developing communications instruments for fundraising and publicity
  • Board and Committee Management. Working with the Board of Directors on periodic updates of the strategic plan.  Managing Board meetings. 
  • Program Oversight. Responsibilities include organizing and advancing FACS’s programmatic goals, which include: 
    • Advocating for local action on climate change to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase resiliency,
    • Expanding and deepening the involvement of FACS’s reach to faith communities in the work and goals of FACS at both organizational and individual levels,
    • Strengthening FACS’s impact by assisting communities in Virginia to build local interfaith climate justice hubs outside Fairfax County, and   
    • Building FACS’s organizational capacity to expand its reach.
  • Staff Management and brand recognition.
    • Managing and directing part time and contractor staff.
    • Conducting internal and external communications

 

Qualifications:

Enthusiasm for addressing climate change is essential, as is the ability to articulate the relationships between faith and climate activism.  Strong speaking and writing skills are critical. 

A bachelor's degree is required for this position as is at least five years of experience raising funds from the private foundation and corporate sectors, and individual donors. In its most recent iteration of its strategic plan, FACS committed to doubling its revenue stream to enable it to carry out its mission more effectively. 

 

Will be a self-starter able to communicate with different stakeholders and members of a diverse interfaith and secular community and a track record of managing simultaneous priorities in an uncertain environment.

As this position centers on the geographic region of northern Virginia, a vehicle is mandatory. Mileage and gas will be reimbursed.  Many of FAS’s events take place during the evenings and weekends. 

The ability to use Google Drive for archiving materials is also required and the ability to use and understand various platforms like the Action Network and Salsa is essential.

Commitment:

40 hours a week.
