Join us -- after the midterm elections, Congress returns to work on Monday, Nov. 14th, and they need to be reminded that ECA Reform must get done during the 117th Session, best by end of 2022.
- Senate and House proposals are out, they could be better, especially in the context of failed votes for Voting Rights, but they must be acted upon -- a reform proposal must pass.
- Our democracy, with both its virtues and iniquities, can not risk moving forward into the 118th Session without ECA Reform
- Those Senators that lived through the January 6th, 2021 insurrection, must render the ECA reform.
The Electoral Count Act was written in 1887. After more than a century, the law has remained the same, even as ambiguities have caused conflicts and upheavals—most notably after the 2020 election.
Ensuring every person has their votes counted and protecting the peaceful, orderly, legal transfer of power are core to our national self-narratives, our sense of what the founders intended, and what contemporary Americans expect. With the future and destiny of the Country at stake, ECA reforms are too important to do nothing. We need to make sure Senators understand the importance and move reform forward.
