Set aside centered time for this sacred commemoration of Buddha Shakyamuni’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana, as well as to expand your beneficial and auspicious actions and deepen your practice during this holy month of Saka Dawa.
- First Day of Saka Dawa Month – Setting an Intention and Bodhichitta Practice: Thursday, May 9, 8:00am
- Intro to Buddhism Dharma Talk – The Four Noble Truths: Saturday, May 11, 10:00 – 11:00am. Registration Required.
- Saka Dawa Day - Bodhichitta Vow and Practice: Thursday, May 23, 8:00am
- Celebration of the Birth, Enlightenment and Parinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni Join us for this service including the offering of the Heart Sutra for World Peace: Friday, May 24, 6:30 – 7:30pm, In-Person or via Zoom
- Vajrasattva Practice and Meditation Mini-Retreat: Saturday, May 25, 10:00am to 3:00pm, In-person or via Zoom. Vajrasattva is the Buddha of Purification. Join Geshela for this special opportunity to receive a teaching, and use recitation, meditation and visualization to help overcome past negative karmic action, present suffering, remove causes of our future suffering, as well as removing obstacles toy our spiritual practice. Simple lunch included. Cost: $40, $50, $60. Some partial scholarships are available.

This extraordinary video captures the magic of Tuesday. May 21, 2013 when DGCEC hosted a special event at the Kentucky Center for the Arts called “Youth Engaging Compassion - Dialogue with the Dalai Lama”. Representatives of nearly 150 area schools, about 2400 young middle and high school students, attended this discussion with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, focusing on engaged compassion and how we can transform our life and our society through living compassionate lives. DGCEC honors His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to DGCEC and Louisville 11 years ago by offering this Compassion Cultivation Intensive – based on the renowned 8-week CCT (next full class begins in June) – to community members at a low cost.
