Best Practices for Litigation: Recordkeeping

State and local Leagues have been empowering voters and defending democracy in courts of law for decades. They are able to do this because they have members, volunteers, and staff who are voters and advocates engaged in the work of democracy. When a law or policy will harm voters, members, or the League itself, the League can go to court to seek relief. But how does the League demonstrate to the court that it has been harmed? It does so by producing evidence, documents, and data. Where does this evidence come from and how to you create it when you are a volunteer-based organization? LWVUS will be joined by our longtime legal partners at the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to discuss best practices for record-keeping, document retention, and other tools to ensure that your League is protecting your litigation-related data. This webinar will be great for any League leader who would like to learn more about how to keep track of documents, information, or data related to League business, even if you never end up filing any litigation.

Especially in moments when legislative advocacy stalls, due to gridlock in Congress or other hurdles, it is key to find other avenues to pursue our policy goals. Join this webinar to learn about LWVUS' efforts on advocacy with the Executive branch and our goals for regulatory action this Congress.
