Join Housing Action Illinois and Latino Policy Forum to learn about the housing rights of immigrant renters in Illinois. We will discuss the laws and best practices surrounding immigrant housing rights, regardless of your client's immigration status, and explain the important protections created by the statewide Immigrant Tenant Protection Act. This 2019 law prohibits landlords from requiring tenants to share their immigration status and from harassing, threatening, or evicting tenants based on any perceived immigration or citizenship status.
We will also discuss the Right to Repair Act, access to translation/interpretation services, the eviction process, discriminatory practices to avoid, and possible repercussions for discrimination.
