AK Mountain Women- Alaska Range

Alaska Mountain Women is an all-female backcountry skiing, climbing and glacial mountaineering collective founded in Juneau, AK in 2017.

The goal of the group is to cultivate a strong community of women dedicated to challenging and educating ourselves and others about glacial mountaineering and big remote mountains in Alaska. 

In April 2018, six founding members attempted a 21.04 mile ski of the Stikine Icefield, with two first ascents of unnamed, unclimbed peaks. Unfortunately, due to weather and an impassible icefall, the traverse was left incomplete.


Last April, AK Mountain Women returned yet this time further north.  A team of eight women completed two first ascents of in the Wrangell St. Elias Range.

Next May, the crew is planning two expeditions in the Alaska Range.  One expedition is planning to ski Denali and one expedition will be climbing Foraker.

Foraker trip members are Mary Gianotti, Katie McCaffrey, Emma Lyddan, and Kit Cunningham.  Denali ski trip members are Fallon Connolly, Casey Patten, Ashley Klassen, Maddie Hall, Rain Felkl, and Eva Bingham.

The last two years we were able to fully fund our trips through grants and donations - and though we know it's not nearly enough - we were able to thank you with stickers designed by our lovely expedition member Maddie Hall!

So, this year, we introduce our third annual sticker. With each donation of $5 or more, we will send you this year's trip sticker, a handwritten thank you card, and of course, an eternity of thanks!
