What You Need to Know About California’s New Fair Housing Laws:
Belonging, Housing Discrimination and Fair Housing in the Bay Area
New Fair Housing Laws go into effect this year, most notably AB 686, which requires all cities, counties and state agencies in California to assess the extent of housing inequality and segregation as part of their Housing Element, and to dismantle historical injustices and create equal housing opportunities in all housing and community development programs and activities.
This workshop, jointly hosted by BARHII (Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative), Public Advocates, and the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco's Community Development Department, will cover the legal requirements, expectations of jurisdictions, and opportunities to plan for housing choice, stable communities, and belonging. Panelists will discuss potential hurdles and strategies for overcoming them and share steps jurisdictions are taking to begin their fair housing assessment.
