Obama took his sweet time to endorse Joe Biden after the Democratic primary. He was also pretty quiet throughout the summer. Now he is going to step up and start campaigning for Biden at the last minute.
Doesn’t it seem a little late for this?
Obama still has star power in Democratic circles, but it’s hard to know if he can move the needle in any meaningful way.

Former President Barack Obama will head to Philadelphia on Wednesday to campaign on behalf of the Biden-Harris ticket, his first appearance on the trail thus far.
With just two weeks until the election, Obama will rally support in a battleground state that President Trump won by less than a percentage point in 2016.
Current polls show Democratic opponent Joe Biden leading Trump by more than five percentage points, according to a Real Clear Politics average. Philadelphia bolstered Obama’s White House victories in both 2008 and 2012, when Biden was his running mate.
Meanwhile, vice presidential hopeful Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., has tweaked her campaign events after multiple staffers tested positive for the coronavirus, but her husband, Doug Emhoff, will hold a rally in Philadelphia on Saturday.
It’s rather telling that of all the places Obama could do this, he’s going to Pennsylvania. Democrats were deeply wounded by Trump’s victory there in 2016 and desperately want to move it back into the blue state column.

The Biden campaign announced Friday that President Obama will join the campaign trail for the first time next week to campaign on behalf of his former vice president. Mr. Obama will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, October 21, according to the campaign.

Mr. Obama has largely stayed away from the 2020 presidential race, but did make an appearance at the virtual Democratic National Convention in August. Mr. Obama praised Biden in a speech on the third night of the convention, and offered a rare rebuke of President Trump.“I have sat in the Oval Office with both of the men who are running for president. I never expected that my successor would embrace my vision or continue my policies. I did hope, for the sake of our country, that Donald Trump might show some interest in taking the job seriously; that he might come to feel the weight of the office and discover some reverence for the democracy that had been placed in his care,” Mr. Obama said. “But he never did.”
Trump has not only undone much of Obama’s legacy, he has also outdone him on economic and foreign policy.

What’s the over/under on how many times he says “I” or “me”?
We used to hear about Sparklefart’s use of “I” all the time. I would sometimes lock the doors and close the curtains and try to promote my achievements without saying “I” too often. I struggled.
Even in spite of my dislike of the man I thought maybe we were being too petty, and maybe he deserved a pass (but just that one, with emphasis on maybe).
Fast forward to the Trump Era. President Trump gets up behind the podium and says “…the economy is greater than it’s ever been. We did a great job! We built the strongest economy the world has ever seen. We… We… We…!”

Hillary had a bigger 2016 turnout than Obama in Philly. It was overwhelmed by the rural vote putting Trump over the top. I have no reason to believe those voters won’t turn again in the same numbers or greater.

hunter sounded a lot like Fredo Corleone in the text to his daughter Naomi. The family doesn’t respect him, apparently. Between the allegations of his drug use, affinity for prostitutes, affair with his brother’s widow… it could be the guy is set on self destructing. I’m surprised obama would get close to the bidens at this point. Maybe hunter’s laptop is set to bring them all down, so why not get in the “russian disinformation” clown car.
That wasn’t about respect, that was an essential part of the plot. The Chinese weren’t interested in that useless lump Hunter, they were interested in shoveling money where it would do them some good—into the Biden clan bribe fund and ultimately to Joe. But they’re not just going to mail him checks, and he didn’t have anything like the Clinton International Slush Fund set up, so they used Hunter as a bag man. That’s where his munificent salary and consulting fees ended up. Of course Hunter was well-paid for it, but he wasn’t the ultimate prize.

Obama doesn’t exactly have a stellar record with helping others with elections, though he was great for himself. Obama also had a massive cheat machine (just remember all those areas where there were more voters than registered voters voting for him in high percentages), which I think Hillary was only a partial beneficiary of.
It is telling of desperation to have him come out now. And into an area where it is nearly a sure win for any leftist. Why would Duh One need to go to Philly? It will be telling you how poorly Dementia Joe is doing by seeing where Obama goes to campaign for him. Obama was terrible for the economy, and people might be slightly brain dead in Philly, but reality is probably waking up some of those people who felt the improvements.

Obama did not have popular appeal so much as guilt going for him in 2008 and 2012 (crappy GOPe presidential candidates also helped him out). Many whites voted for him in a desire to avoid accusations of racism.
For that reason the Congressional candidates Obama campaigned for in 2010 and 2014 got pummeled. Obama also failed to drag Hillary! over the finish line in 2016.

By 2016, when Obama’s anointed successor Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump, the Democratic Party was in tatters. It wasn’t just the House and Senate the GOP came to dominate.
Over the course of his presidency, more than 1,000 elected offices in the United States (out of 8,800 total) changed hands from Democrats to Republicans.
At the end of Obama’s tenure, Republicans held the majorities in 69 out of 99 state legislative bodies and 33 governor’s mansions (when they had held only 19 in 2009).
So congratulations on the endorsement you didn’t want, Joe Biden. You may live to regret it.

1. Everyone who voted for Trump in 2016 will vote for him again.
2. Biden is a loser. He lost to Obama in 08, He lost to Hillary AND Bernie in 2016 and he was losing to Bernie this year. The only thing he has ever won is his senate seat which he never had to fight for. His current campaign shows he never had to fight for any office he’s ever held. The results of that are obvious.
3. Hillary generated not much excitement for dems, but her campaign is freaking mardi gras in comparison to Biden. So with that in mind, who on the Dem sidelines in 2016 is going to show up in 2020??? Answer: none- their lives are better because of Trump.
4. Go through all the swing states and ignore the corrupt polling. Michigan’s governor is hated so much there has been an assassination attempt. Hispanics LOVE Trump in Florida (in contrast, what has Biden done to change their mind???).
I don’t know whether the polling is corrupt or they just haven’t changed their methods to reflect the new reality where people are afraid to say they are voting (R) OR they just don’t trust pollsters and refuse to answer, but I dont’ think anything has changed since 2016 and it may have gotten worse. NOTHING I read in the polling matches what I see with my own eyes. I’ll caveat this last statement with the fact that I live in a bubble, but even through the translucent view from my bubble, I don’t see how Trump loses.

A lead of five percentage points is yuge. A lazy rich guy like O isn’t going to get out of bed just to add to that. Ergo, they all know the poll lead is dead fake.
So what do the D’s do about it? Send some rich guy to tell voters how much better off they’ll be with the “those jobs ain’t coming back” party. Yep, sure sounds like a formula for success to me.
You might think that Obama coming out to campaign is a sign that they’re losing. And it might be. But here are some other possible reasons:
1. He was supposed to campaign all along but they couldn’t get him to come in off the golf course. He finally realized he would have to make a token effort (no pun intended) or miss the whole thing.
2. They finally told Obama the truth: We were going to have Joe do this appearance but the town hall thing tired him out even more than expected and we don’t think he’ll be able to handle it for at least another month.
3. Someone in the media noticed Obama hasn’t been very enthusiastic and, in order to counter the narrative, the campaign paid him more than his usual rate for this appearance.
4. Michelle wanted to visit a store in Pittsburgh, so Barry figured, what the hell? It’s close by.
The one theory that is NOT on the table: Obama is campaigning because he believes Joe Biden is the best choice for America and a worthy successor to himself, and he really really wanted to help.
Obama is compaigning because Biden is not able.
I’ll add another reason. Biden’s campaign ads seem to be implying that everything good that happened under Obama was thought up and directed by His Magnificence Joe Biden. Obama may want to ‘gently’ correct the record.

My first thought as well. Plus coming only two weeks ahead of the election; people will remember – and remember what a disaster Soetero was.
A successful Chinese espionage plan was run against Joe Biden and they probably weren’t even planning it at the time. I’m slow on the uptick for the bigger issues (forest for the trees) but do people not realize that the Hunter/Joe Biden Chinese corporation payoffs might as well have been a Chinese honey-pot espionage effort? The Chinese literally have Joe Biden over a barrel. This is about so much more than money.
More important than any cash that the Bidens took was the fact that they took cash at all. The Chinese found a back door into the obama White House. And that was just the start. The Chinese now have actual, verifiable leverage over any potential Biden administration in the form of straight up blackmail.
The Chinese know that Joe could have told his son to pound sand, but he didn’t. The Chinese know that Joe’s closest staff members could have told Hunter to pound sand, but they didn’t. Talk about a potential cash cow of “Biden administration” Chinese control.

The next question is who else came through the door while the Bidens were doing business?
The Chinese have been buying influence in the WH for decades. Bill Clinton literally accepted bags of money from Chinese agents, while in office. Al Gore was picking up bags of money from Chinese agents in a Buddhist Temple in 1996. HRC was accepting money from Chinese agents and sources in both of her campaigns. We still have no idea where significant amounts of money for BHO’s campaigns came from as they were anonymous small donations transmitted over the internet from God alone knows where. Then ask yourself why would BHO place Joe Biden in charge of US foreign relations with Russia, Ukraine, and China? With these critical foreign powers, wouldn’t one want a highly competent negotiator in place?

I’m confused by your “pound sand” comments. They seem to imply that Hunter dreamed up all the scams and approached Joe with them. It’s clear from the laptop contents that Joe orchestrated all the scams and told Hunter it was his job to be the family bagman, and Joe’s cut was going to be 50%.
There is a key demographic within the Democrat base which they have enjoyed since the early 1970s, the African American voting block. Not only is it critical to the success of their national candidates, that success relies upon high turnout and capturing the votes of 85+% of that block. Obama is going to Philly to attempt to salvage as much as he can of that voting block for Biden.
Now, polling of this block is largely useless. Given the high incidence of intimidation of people, who go against the liberal herd and support Trump, most Trump supporters, in this group, are either going to stand moot or lie about their preference. But, they will still go to the polls and vote. And, largely because of the economic benefits which Trump policies and actions have conveyed to this group, more and more are supporting the man who made those benefits possible.
